Pregnant after a Loss

Progesterone

Hi!!! I'm back! I am pregnant again after two loses. My HCG level has gone up to 3,806. I've had four blood draws and they are going well. However, my progesterone levels have gone down slightly each time. It is now at 11.2 and my doc put me on progesterone pills. Any advise? Should I be worried?

Re: Progesterone

  • I'm on progesterone now after two losses and I'm currently past my lost point with this LO. I'm positive that progesterone is a miracle worker.
  • Just a PSA for those that feel progesterone is magic...it only helps if you're low or have luteal phase deficiency or incompetent cervix. It could worsen other conditions. Medications only work when they are treating the right thing.

  • How do I find out if I have any of those?
  • Your doc lets you know. Sounds like they are trying to figure it out.

My point is, no one without a progesterone test or a short cervix should really be on the med.

  • Welcome and congratulations! I agree with PP - with your doctor monitoring your progesterone, I think you'll be fine in that regard. I just stopped about a week ago, but I was a FET.

  • I don't think my doctor has ever checked my progesterone levels... And I miscarried last time because my hCG levels weren't doubling. Well, they weren't doubling and then at an ultrasound early in my 9th week, there was no heartbeat. I'm waiting to hear tomorrow if they're doubling this time. Is progesterone something that can help with low/not doubling hCG levels?
  • Congratulations!!!  I too had progesterone problems.  After 7 years TTC I lost my first baby at 6wks6days due to low progesterone (and there was a heart beat)!  A year later I conceived again, and insisted on getting tested for progesterone immediately, and it was again low.  So, they put me on the suppositories and I carried it to term.  Same thing with #2.  #3 I didn't realize I was pregnant and lost it at 6wks due to low prog.  #4 carried to term with prog.  #5 I found out late and my progesterone was 4.5/ml which is considered not viable, but with the suppositories I'm currently 19weeks pg (miracle baby!).  So, hopefully this will serve as an encouragement to you.  With the suppositorites it makes up 100% for your lack of it and as long as baby is healthy (and cervix is fine) you should be able to carry to term.  Blessings to you on the rest of your journey!

Unfortunately progesterone only helps if you have low progesterone. HCG is all up to the baby and the progesterone is all you.

  • My HCG has gone up from 3,000 to 12,000. Progesterone increased from 11.2 to 16.8. Doc wants an ultrasound tomorrow.
