HSM?

Hi gals,

I go for an HSM on October 16. This is incredibly sucky timing because I hope to ovulate on Monday and we were going to try getting it on with pre-seed. But now I am concerned that I could be pregnant and not know in time. Anyhow, that's another topic. I will probably just try to play it safe and accept that we are out this month.

My real question is; What do I expect? Pain? Discomfort? What about afterwards? My OB is a bit of a douche and didn't explain anything. I'd appreciate any insight.

Do you mean HSG? You're not supposed to have one after you o for that exact reason. They're supposed to be done between cd7-12, I believe. And I had always been told no unprotected sex for a week leading up to it.

yeah, for an HSG they'll also make you POAS the morning off, or sometimes even there, just to make sure. You can't do it if you think you may be pregnant.

The facility performing the HSG as well as my RE made it very clear you are only blue to schedule an HSG in the pre-ovulatory part of your cycle. They wouldn't even let me schedule it unless it was between CD 7 and 11.

If you are talking about HSGs, I believe I had mine a few days before my first IUI. I don't have my calendar nearby, but I think my HSG was around CD10 or 11. It was really uncomfortable for about 20 seconds, maybe less. I just remember clenching my fists really tight because I didn't know what to expect. I had very mild cramping afterwards, and that was it.

I was also only allowed to schedule my HSG between CD7-11. The procedure wasn't that bad and it was pretty similar to a pap. I didn't really have any cramping afterward. I was a little thrown off by the lighted speculum they used. It kind of looked like a light saber. Haha!!

I'm not convinced she meant HSG, she typed HSM twice, and the M is no where near the G on the keyboard.

Sorry ladies, I never get time to bump!

It's the test where they put dye into your fallopian tubes to see if there are any blockages. That is the acronym my OB used for it - but maybe that's not the right one or I heard him wrong. (he has an incredibly thick accent like whoa).

Anyhow, shooting me up with dye, yo.

Lol yea, that'd be HSG. I've done two, the first one was extremely painful/crampy- they had to forcefully dilate my cervix to get the cath in, etc. 2nd one was not bad, but I think the first procedure you have done like this is always the worst. I've had 2 SHGs since that first HSG (just water in the ute) and they were a breeze compared to that first procedure.

Mine was pretty painful but over quickly. They said I "Might feel some cramping" but It felt like one pretty good contraction, then it was over. I would suggest bringing your own pad though as the ones they will give you there can double as a flotation device.

I went in for my first HSG not knowing if I was ovulating or not. They vagcam'd me 4 days before and the day of and determined that I had in fact O'd. Since DH & I had had sex, they skipped the dye part of the HSG. (Couldn't get in anyway, so it didn't matter.)

So, no sex before the HSG or they will just make you come back for it.

for me, hsg was no big deal. No spotting or cramping. They did require it be before cd 12. I did not get pregnant immediately following, but the next cycle plus clomid I did. I almost want to get another one just for old times sake. Good luck!

Mine was quick and pretty much painless. But they did require me to have it after the end of my last period and before there was any chance of ovulation (~CD 10).

I am going to call and reschedule. I just ovulated. I don't want to chance that there could be a wee baby in there.

Thanks for the information. Not sure why I thought it was HSM. I'm learning haha.

I think I will reschedule for two Thursdays from now (they only do it on Thursday.)

Which part of Canada? I'm in Toronto.
And mine were definitely not just scheduled Thursdays

And they would only schedule it between CD5-10 I believe.

Hopefully you get into an RE soon!! We skipped the OB thing. I'll guess it's a regional thing.

Ah you guys have beautiful fall leaves that way. We have some but mostly concrete. We had hoped to head that way this weekend to admire them but my cousins asked to take my son overnight so I jumped at that instead.
