breastfeeding while asleep

Is it possible to be fed off of while you are asleep? My husband wants to help with feeding when I'm napping as I can sleep upright but I haven't seen anything on this subject.

  • Side lying nursing can work. I've done it

  • I have yet to bring my daughter into my bed with me. I know my room is not set up for bed sharing which is why I won't bring her in since it would be too comfortable for me.

I always feed her while sitting up, there have been moments where I doze off a bit since it's so tiring at times!

She is able to latch on and continue to eat... even when I have nodded off. mind you I can't seem to get a deep sleep while she is eating so I am a lot more aware of any movements that are being made.

Just make sure you are in a comfortable, and safe place for both you and your baby. If you plan to bed share, do take pp advice! And also keep in mind don't lay or sleep on the couch with your baby!

  • We do side lying and I always fall asleep - only problem is I wake up an hour later and baby is asleep too ( or still nursing) so I really have no clue if he was nursing the whole time or fell asleep after two minutes! Oh well, guess he'd let me know if he was still hungry.
