vaginal dryness and irritation?

This is an issue I've been having the last couple of months. I'm 23 weeks pregnant. My doctor is aware of the problem and they are really not sure what it's from. I tested negative for any infections.

I have horrible irritation in my vagina. Sex is almost impossible and most of the pain is associated with sex but it will start on its own randomly. It's also pretty swollen and red according to my doctor. Lube/coconut oil only helps so much. Usually about 30 minutes after sex out starts to feel better.

It's anyone else having this problem? Some things I've read make it sound like it's pretty common during pregnancy, But I just don't think it should be so painful.
