December 2014 Moms

Csection scheduled and it looks like I will not be having a December baby.

I received the call today. The OB is worried enough that she (not the scheduler) talked to the head of the surgery department (what I was told anyway). So the hospital that does not do Csections on the weekend unless it is an emergency has decided that #6 will be here November 29th. I guess the OB is concerned because she is off the first, this is my 6th Csection, and she does not wish to cut it close to my due date (the 5th of December). Especially after I had minor contractions last pregnancy and felt nothing. *shrugs*.

:-/ I wanted that December baby.... I could be stubborn and push it and refuse the date and force it for the 2nd (OB is off the 1st), but I have decided since she is that adamant that it needs done, we will go for it. I will still be in my 39th week. Plus, I like this one. She did my last Csection. So she knows what she is getting herself into. Plus, she had no issues doing the tubal ligation the way I want and does delay cord clamping with a Csection.

  • I'm glad you have a date!

And LOVE LOVE LOVE that you have someone on board with delayed cord clamping!

  • My first "December" baby  (edd 12/10) came on Nov 26th due to complications.  I also wanted a December baby, but oh well.  If you are comfortable with what your OB wants to do, great!

  • Oh I agree. DD1 is a mid November baby. So we will have 2 weeks between birthdays. lol Although we have that between our September and October child because one was born mid month and the other was born Oct. 2nd.

Yeah, I wish I did not have to have a Csection, but my only other option was a VBAC after 2 csections. The Csection before I had hemorrhaged and well, they kicked my ex out of the OR and I remember nothing for a few hours. Yes, it was deemed ok for me to have another baby. I make the poor OB go over my personal info every time, but it made me fear a home birth. Which was the only option for a VBAC in my area. So this will be Csection #6. And my last. I don't care how well I heal, there is no more. I do know someone (in person, not online) who had 8 csections and 2 were the zipper. So I know more can be done safely (depending on how you heal).

It's a Csection either way and like I said, I will still be in my 39th week. So I am good enough. I have decided it is a little bit of a trade off. And I do understand her concern. I am well aware of all the horrors that can happen with more than one Csection. An ex boss' wife had her incision site break open when she was pregnant with their 3rd and luckily she caught it and was rushed in. The girl is now 10ish.  I have aunties that are nurses and several have worked on the maternity ward at some point. lol I'm surprised I am not more of a mess. Although they were comforting with my NICU baby (28w 1lb 13oz).

  • @BankerBSN - There is nothing to indicate there is an issue. So why take the baby if there isn't reason? Like I said, she has been in there before. I heal quite well and she was surprised that I had had so many Csecitons given how little scar tissue I had and how well it had all healed. The contractions... Well, if I had a history of dilating, she might be concerned. I don't think I have ever been past a 2. Ever... Even with my 39w5d child. I have a feeling I will be put on  "bed rest" the last week or two. Which means someone else can do stuff here and I just try to take it easy... with 5 kids at home. Hahaha She has 4 kids close in age like mine, so at least she knwos how that works.

  • I think the 29th is a great day to have a baby. It's my birthday! I'm also due Dec 5th and if I go the c section route, this was a date given to me. Still, I think I am determined to go for the vbac2.

I was not being snarky with my comment at all. With each c/s there is an increased risk of adhesions and other complications of surgery. And every pregnancy is different. You never know when or if you will go into labor with this one. I am just used to seeing moms with 4+ c/s being scheduled closer to 38 weeks than 39. I am truly glad that you and your doctor have a good plan in place and I hope this one is as smooth as the previous.

  • It must be so different to know the day you'll have your baby. I don't know how I'd rather have it. Obviously I don't mean the difference in a c-section or natural birth. Just in general, if we could opt between knowing the day baby would come or not.

I'm glad you have a good dr that seems to have your best interest at heart. That's not always the case sadly.

You know what, now that I think about it, I used to work in pre-registration at a hospital and there were woman we couldn't call to pre-reg bc they were scheduled for a section and didn't want to know until the night before. So the OB would call them at night and tell them when to be at the hospital the next day.

  • Not sure whereabouts you live but the big silver lining here in CA would be that babies born before 12/2 are eligible for transitional kindergarten.  I've heard 12/1 is the cutoff in many/most states for that sort of thing.  I'm still totally baffled as to why 12/1 makes more sense than 12/31.  Shrug.

#3's Csection I question. Well, I did when I was having #4 and the OB was looking over things and I was discussing it with her. I was actually trying to find a Dr. who would do a hospital VBAC up until #4.I had one willing but there was no hospital that would allow a Vbac within an hour and a half. So I gave up on that dream of having a natural baby a while ago. I came to terms with that people assuming you could change your date at will to fit whatever and give you crap because you didn't tell them when you csection was ASAP once you knew. Yet a woman who has one naturally has no clue. Also the "advice" from them with me having so many. Most from non medical and women who have had just one or none. No, I am not bashing anyone here. I do know the risks. I educated myself pretty well when I opted to have #3 and the OB told me that they do not allow more than 3 csections. I wanted to know why. For them, it was a blanket statement. And that is why we go over my file every time we wish to have another.

@BankerBSN - I took it out of concern, not snarky. Darn internet. Hard to tell "voice inflection". I have decided I must always come off as bitchy. :-/ Sorry about that.

Calling the night before? Wow... Yeah, That would be cool, kinda like a surprise natural, but not the same. Plus, it would be a nightmare for me. lol Scrambling to find help for 5 kids. I guess it is a blessing because I do not have to depend on not so great people to care for my kids till a better person can get there. My parents are NEVER an option.

There are different ways they can do a tubal ligation. They can use rings and clips. I don't want those. I wish I could find the cool link with pictures of it all, but I don't see it. lol I am all about pictures.

Definitely. As painful as it is, it's an amazing experience and I feel weird about going in to have a baby with no crazy contractions to deal with. It's sad to me. I'm odd, I know.

I totally get this.  I feel like I missed out on a huge life experience (a vaglnal birth) by having an emergency c/s.
