Surgery

my doctor just called me yesterday to let me know the Cyst they found on my right Overy is 6 inche and they want to remove it! I am 21 weeks pregnant and terffied for this surgery! I read that it's very common. I just want to know has anyone ever had to have this done or know someone?

Re: Surgery

  • A friend of mine found out she was pregnant when they did a pre-op pregnancy test, she was about to have a cyst removed.

They monitored the cyst during pregnancy, but it ruptured at 20 weeks. She had an emergency operation to have it removed. She was only in hospital for two days with minimal discomfort.

The rest of her pregnancy went smoothly and her son has just turned 3.

I sure it must be daunting, but I'm sure the very small risk of surgery outweigh the risk of leaving the cyst.

Wishing you all the best, hope it goes well xx

  • Not this particular surgery but I did have to have my gallbladder removed when I was 14w. Everything went well and my little girl seems to be doing great! My thoughts and prayers are with you!!

  • I don't blame you for being scared that sounds terrifying. Would they remove it laparoscopically? The recovery from a laparoscope surgery isn't terrible. I was up and moving, albeit slowly, the next day, but felt like myself and was off all meds, but ibuprofen, within a week. I'm sure the doctors have yours and baby's best interest in mind. If it were me I would do it. I would want it done on my terms and in a controlled situation instead of after a rupture and in an emergency situation. I know you'll make the best choice for you and your baby whatever you choose. Take care!

  • I just went through this three weeks ago. I was also 21 weeks with a large cyst on my right ovary. I did lose my ovary along with it and have a pretty sizable scar down my abdomen but baby and I are doing well three weeks later.
I never post or check these boards but I remember how terrified I was and coming out of it, I know it would have helped hearing a recent success story.
