Ugh, spotting.

I'll be 12 weeks on Sunday and tonight I started spotting after a few days of mild cramps. I'm in complete panic mode, my husband is working out of state so it's just me taking care of our toddler and two dogs.

With my first pregnancy I had a SCH that caused spotting around 7 weeks, so my fingers and toes are crossed that I'm just experiencing an SCH with this pregnancy too.

I put a call out to my midwife, she gave me a few options; I could come in and they could look for the heartbeat with the doppler any time this weekend (although we're not sure we'd find it anyway, since they haven't tried yet), we could schedule an ultrasound for Monday or I could just wait it out. She did say that if I don't miscarry that she'll schedule an ultrasound soon anyway to see what's going on. Since I already had an appointment booked for Wednesday I'm opting to wait it out. I'm beyond freaked out, I stupidly felt like I was more in the clear as each day passed after the 7 week mark.

Thanks for letting me vent, this is incredibly hard to deal with when my husband is 4 states away (and I'm sure at this point my 2 year old thinks I'm crazy for randomly bursting in tears all night.)

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If the worry becomes overwhelming, or the symptoms get worse, consider calling to have your Wednesday ultrasound moved to Monday. Two days shouldn't make too much difference in what you're seeing, but it could do a lot to calm your anxiety.

  • Pregnancy can be so frustrating. I'm sorry that you're experiencing this at the 12 week mark. But I applaud you for your Wedndesay willpower. I would probably change the appointment to Monday if possible.
Try to keep your feet up and rest this weekend. When I start spotting, I try to take it easy for a few days.
Thoughts, prayers, and big hugs! Keep us updated.
  • Hi there, I just wanted to say that I too had spotting at 11 weeks and 4 days, it was for one day, and I was fully freaked out. Checked heart beat and everything was ok...even with bleeding that day. I was given progesterone for a week.

Please don't stress, the best thing you can do is to rest and don't overdue it. I was also told that if you had a low lying placenta that this could happen. Early pregnancy many people have low lying placenta and this usually goes away as pregnancy advances.

Wishing you all the best and hope this helps.
  • (((Hugs))) sending lots if positive vibes your way!!

  • Hoping that the spotting is just a little scare and nothing more comes of it. Hang in there until your Wednesday appointment, get lots of water and rest. Keeping you in my thoughts!
  • I'm 13 weeks today and I had bleeding right around 5 and 11 weeks. It is frightening to say the least! My dr. put me on modified bedrest this last time at 11 weeks for a week and I just went Thurs and baby, thank God, was healthy and good. They told me bleeding is more common than you'd think and a lot of the time it's either placental or implantation causing it. Good luck, rest, and think good thoughts!
  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I hope everything is okay! If it were me, I would definitely switch my appointment to Monday because I know I couldn't focus at work for three days worrying about it. Good luck; keep us posted! Hugs!

  • Sorry your going through this :( I'll pray baby is ok. Take care of yourself and as hard as it is, try to remember that stress isn't healthy for either of you <3
  • Sorry your going through this. Try and rest as much as possible an stay positive! Thanking of you
  • I sure hope everything is ok. FX for a heart beat this morning!
  • You should be able to hear a heart beat by now so maybe going in would be a good idea just to reassure you. I had some complications with both my pregnancies at the beginning so I bought a heart Doppler so whenever I felt in doubt I used it and felt relief when I heard the heartbeat :)
  • She couldn't find the baby on doppler, but she did say the fact that she could hear strong sounds from the placenta is good. We're going for an ultrasound on Monday. The spotting seems to be slowing down, so hopefully it'll stop soon.
