April 2015 Moms

~*~*~* Weekly IVF/TTTC/2IF/Infertility grads check-in 10/7 *~*~*~

This check-in is meant for women who had a lot more trouble than most getting pregnant. You don't have to have done IVF to be part of the group, but we do want this limited to those who were diagnosed as infertile by an RE and were using some kind of medical assistance to get pregnant.

What's new with everyone this week? Symptoms to report? Scans? (There were a lot of NT scans on the books last week!) Appointments? Tell us everything!

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much? ALSO: it might be good for me to pass this torch on to someone else soon. Who's up for running this check-in?

  • I'm 10w6d today.  No new progress for me.  I had some brown spotting on Sunday & Monday, but it seems to be gone today.  (Hooray).  I wish I knew what caused it, but I'll probably never know.
My 1st Tri screening with the perinatologist is 10/22, and my next regular OB appt is 10/23.  I have a level II sonogram schedule for 12/04 -- I'm really hoping that I'll see some great detail then.  It seems like such a long, long time away - I literally don't know if I can make it that long (I often feel the odds are against me for the pregnancy to make it that long). I'm trying to look forward, without looking too far forward.

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much? ALSO: it might be good for me to pass this torch on to someone else soon. Who's up for running this check-in?
I still haven't bought anything, but I have started to think about looking.  I even mentioned to DH that I want a double jogger stroller, but that's as far as I've gotten.  I think it might be easier to actually shop a little if I can make it to the 2nd tri.  But then again, work will be busy through Nov., and then I'll be busy hosting Thanksgiving & then Christmas, so in reality, we probably won't get around to shopping until January.  That sounds like us.

I'm dodging the check-in for now, since I recently started the FTM check-in on PAIF - but if you don't get any takers, I could probably step in.

  • Nothing new to report here.  Still super bloated, but otherwise feeling well.

QOTW:  My parents bought us a crib.  We will be refinishing my grandmother's dresser for our LO.  Ive bought fabric because I will be making the bedding, and I bought a diaper bag from the PPB sale this am.  Thats about it so far. Also a few outfits.

  • What's new with everyone this week? Symptoms to report? Scans? (There were a lot of NT scans on the books last week!) Appointments? Tell us everything!

Nothing exciting this week.  Had an ultrasound last week because baby was moving too much that they couldn't get the heartbeat on the doppler.  I think I am in for an active baby.

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much?

Haven't bought much for baby yet.  Waiting until we find out the gender to do so.  I did score some outlet maternity clothes though!
    BabyFetus Ticker image
  • Nothing new this week, except hitting the second trimester!

Haven't bought a thing yet. Delaying as I come to terms with having to deal with a way to small apartment with no chance of moving in the next year! I have been window shopping for cribs and strollers though :)
  • Had our NT scan today at 13 weeks and my 30th birthday! It was awesome! Everything looked good but we are waiting to announce after we get the results back from the blood test later this week.

I am bloating sooo badly at night! I literally currently look 5mo pregnant and it's annoying that it's all bloat. I do hope this will go away as I get further along because if not I'm going to be huge!
  • What's new with everyone this week? Symptoms to report? Scans? Appointments?

No appointments this week so I don't have anything to report. I am so nervous having such a long period of time between appointments. I have considered getting a Doppler for reassurance but my DH thinks it is a bad idea. He thinks I will use it all the time. :/

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much?

Since this is #2 and I was team green before we are in really good shape on baby things. I did buy a video monitor (we were old school last time) from a neighbor. :) I also bought some maternity clothes knowing my stomach muscles won't hold baby back like they did last time. Darn c-section!

Bring on those good test results! I hope everyone is getting good news. :/
  • We had our NT scan yesterday, everything looked perfect and it is amazing what all they can scan.  We will have 20, 28, 32, and 36 weeks scans with this perinatologist.  We have our regular OB appt next week.  We got a doppler and used it monday since I was all paranoid.  It will be nice to be able to hear her heartbeat when ever we want now.

I am finally at 14 weeks.  DH got me a card and a cute book to read.  Our friend said it made her laugh a lot, so I'm looking forward to reading it.

QOTW:  I did buy some clothes, it either has foxes on it or kittens.  And I bought these kitten wall stickers for the nursery.  It took me forever to find something that would work, and then these were just perfect, I couldn't believe I had found them.  Now to just buy the butterflies and then DH is going to try the really nice work printer to print out this picture my mom helped find of a kitten with a butterfly on its nose.

What's new with everyone this week? Symptoms to report? Scans? (There were a lot of NT scans on the books last week!) Appointments? Tell us everything!

We haven't had any appointments and don't have one for a long time. We found out our baby is a girl! We were all really shocked. I don't know why but EVERYONE thought this baby was a boy. Since we have 2 year old twin girls, this baby will have plenty of hand-me-downs!

Forgot to add that I'm been feeling tons of movement this week! Makes it very real that there's a baby in there! (Although there's no mistaking it from seeing my huge belly!)

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much? We have some stuff to buy. I got rid of almost all our clothes before the 9 months size. But that's the fun stuff to buy anyways. I haven't bought anything yet, but I'm starting to think about it. I'd like to get a rock n play this time around. I'm really waiting for the black Friday sales.

  • Had our NT scan this week... all looks perfect, and was so relieved to see baby measuring correctly, with a strong heartbeat. Hubby was so satisfied with the scan he decided we could start telling people (we were hesitating to fill most people in, due to so many losses and disappointments in the past.) Things are starting to feel a little more real!

As for buying things, we are following the Jewish tradition of bringing absolutely nothing into the house until the baby is born. It makes things a LOT more tricky ( I have to get measurements exactly right, order furniture in advance and then work out a deal to let it sit in the warehouse until we call when I deliver LO), and will have to send my parents out on the day I give birth to pick up necessities, but it's tradition and we're going to do our best to stick with it! The only thing we will have on the way to the hospital is a car seat (but it will be kept at someone else's house until that day). It also means no baby shower, so I will be eager to live vicariously through everyone else's posts!

  • I am impatiently awaiting my Panarama results.  So far nothing has given me reason to worry.  I have another appointment friday with the OB.

QOTW: I haven't bought anything for the new baby.  I'm a BTDT so I have almost everything I need.  I will however be scrambling if this kid turns out to be a boy.

  • Hey ladies!!!

Nothing new to update yet.  We will have our next appt. on Monday of next week, and I'm starting to go a little crazy!  We were spoiled by our bi-weekly appts./scans at the RE, so I'm feeling really anxious going 4 weeks without a check-in.  We didn't do the NT scan, so I won't see baby again until we find out what we are having :o(.

As far as symptoms go, I was having really weird cramping last night that kept me up half the night just worrying about it.  It's gone today and I assume it was growing pains.  I am having daily headaches and yesterday I would classify as a migraine..it made me nauseous and gave me blurry vision briefly.  I also struggle to keep this acid reflux under control.  Just trying to eat smaller portions.

    -----

QOTW:  DH and I are the worst at being patient.  I follow coupon sites and bought a super cheap crib with great reviews based on one of their posts.  We also bought a dresser and glider to match.  It's all still in boxes and won't come out until close to when we find out what we are having.  Oh...and I came home to DH playing with a baby monitor, so we now have that too! I'm happy to have the big things out of the way...I feel like I'll be able to be much less stressed having that all taken care of early!

  • @acrotzer - Glad you had a great u/s and that the cyst shrank!

@AmShark - Hope the spotting stops for good! Do you mean that your NT scan is on the 22nd and the Level II = the Anomaly Screen? So much terminology!

@GrailSeeker14 - Yay for the normal little girl! :x And thanks for being willing to step in! There's really not too much to running a check-in like this, depending on how complicated people want it. You're probably more creative than me. The hardest parts are coming up with good QOTWs and remembering to post. When would you like to take over?

@Seachele98 - Oooh, it had never occurred to me to make the bedding myself! Where did you get the fabric?

@Thirdday82 - Awww, the wiggly baby sounds cute!!!

@ang123456 - I've been told that small apartments actually work out with newborns well, as they're teeny and don't need a lot of space! Sorry that you're frustrated about it. ((hugs))

@jhesterm - Happy birthday and congrats on a great scan!

@keifekm - FWIW, I love my doppler! I used it three times leading up to the NT scan bc I was so nervous. It's really wonderful to have the reassurance. :)

@Alicia_R1 - Congrats on your NT scan, too! I love the foxes/kittens thing!

@Lyndsey13 - Did you do one of the blood tests to find out the sex? Congrats on another girl! As a BTDT mom, you'll have to tell us where the good Black Friday sales are!

@fj908 - I'm 1/8th Jewish with lots of Jewish friends, and I am a deep admirer of the culture, so I thought about following the no-purchases rule. It sounds really hard! Hope you can get it worked out okay! And congrats on your test results, too!

@KellyA724 - Congrats on all your milestones! I know what you mean about being nervous about purchases.

@baby_blessings - The long time between appts is hard, right! Glad you found a good deal on a crib!

@topaz7777 - Hope you get the Panorama results soon! Come back and let us know!

@jszy10 - Good luck next Monday! I've been having so many weird abdominal sensations that I've stopped trying to figure out what's what. I think there's a lot of movement down there in the 12th and 13th week as the uterus moves out of the pelvis. It certainly feels weird!

AFM, I had my NT scan today. It wasn't a very good subjective experience (I griped about it on PAIF), but I THINK everything looked really good. It was pretty cute to watch the LO rolling, kicking, and moving its little arms around. The doctor said almost nothing to us, but what he did say sounded good, so I went ahead and started talking to work about leave in the spring. I'll have a meeting with the head honchess (if you will) soon. Today also cemented my desire to get a new OB, so that will be happening after my follow up with the current OB next week.

QOTW: We haven't bought anything but books and a few maternity clothes on sale for Labor Day that I haven't even opened yet. I've been working on the registry a little, as I'm sure relatives will want to Christmas shop from it, and also because it's pretty fun. :) (I recommend Lucie's List, btw.) My mom is coming to town this weekend, so we may do a little fun shopping. :)

  • Good luck with the chromosome testing @CaterinaC! Hope you get really good news. I'm jealous of all your hand-me-downs! Please forgive me one comment, though: I've been doing a lot of reading, and everything I've seen advises a lot of caution around using second hand car seats (ditto with cribs and carriers). They say that being used can weaken them so that they don't provide as much protection. Here are a few links (one, two, three) about it. :)

  • Sorry I'm late to the game this week...

Will be 13 weeks tomorrow.  Had my NT scan yesterday and all looked normal so far.  Also had MaterniT21 test last week and am anxiously awaiting the results of that.  Otherwise, I'm feeling generally ok.  Still having headaches, fatigue and nausea here and there, but not as often as previous weeks.

QOTW: I'm a BTDT mom, but time with twins there are a few things I'll need to get.  We haven't bought anything for these babies yet, we still have everything from our older son.  But, we'll need a second high chair, a double stroller (I'm thinking a frame one for infant carriers, and then a second larger one for when they can sit up), two cribs, other nursery furniture, nursing pillows for twins for when I'm able to tandem nurse, replace nipples for bottles we have and of course obnoxious amounts of diapers and wipes :)  Once we know gender, if either or both are girls, we'll have to buy some clothes :)

  • @CaterinaC thanks for the reminder!  I also will need to buy another infant car seat and two bases... eventually another toddler seat (or two depending on when they move into them and if DS is still using his or not).

Oh yeah, and I'm going to need a bigger car.  I currently have an old Accord (2005), and I can't fit 3 car seats in the back comfortably.  Hello mini-van or third row SUV!

@AmShark - Hope the spotting stops for good! Do you mean that your NT scan is on the 22nd and the Level II = the Anomaly Screen? So much terminology!

    ....
Yes, the NT scan is part of the 1st Tri screening - along with blood tests.  I've also seen the Level II Sonogram called an anatomy scan - I don't know if this is the same as an anomaly screen .... hang on while I consult with google... Yes, several sites use the names interchangeably.
I guess my doctor's office thinks Level II or Anatomy scan sound less scary than anomaly screen - as if they could stop me from panicking with a little terminology tweaking - fat chance doc, I'll be a nervous wreck either way.

  • What's new with everyone this week? Im feeling better on the MS front. Symptoms to report? Although my MS has calmed down, I'm struggling to eat. I just don't feel like food, and when i do eat, its very small amounts. Im also extremely tired. As i move into week 14, i was hoping for my energy to pick up.
Scans? We had our NT scan last week, everything looked great. We don't have any further scans booked till 20weeks.
Appointments? Tell us everything! No appointments this week, my next regular OB appointment is next week.

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby yet? We agreed to buy a small something after we reach little milestones, so after our NT scan we went out to buy a few little outfits. My DH had a huge smile on his face the whole time, with 2 girls he was enjoying walking around the boys section. If not, when will you? If you're a BTDT mom, will you have to buy much? we have huge age gaps 14 & 11 so we are having to buy everything again, its fun as so much has changed. ALSO: it might be good for me to pass this torch on to someone else soon. Who's up for running this check-in? Im very happy to take the reins, i know many people have offered, but you can put me on the list of people who are happy to take a turn.
@pblge Thank you for keeping us all connected, i love our weekly check ins.

  • @acrotzer‌ Yay! That's good news!

@AMShark‌ Good luck at your next appointments! I'm thinking the holiday get-togethers and time needed for family stuff will also get in the way of shopping. I hope that my family offers to take care of all the food and not to worry about gifts since I'm expecting so I can focus on getting baby stuff done, haha!

@GrailSeeker14‌ I'm glad your results came back great! Congrats on your girl!

@keifekm‌ I am the same way wondering about the Doppler. I wonder if it might help me feel better, but then I worry if I don't use it properly/can't find the heartbeat I will worry even more. It's a tough decision!

@fjt908‌ Congrats on a good NT scan!

@taahira‌ Glad your NT scan looked good!

Sorry, I'm late but I had my first OB appointment today so I wanted to wait so I had something to share!

I had my first appointment with a new OB today and I really liked him. I'm surprised because I sort of just randomly picked one and said, "if I don't like him I can switch again" so I'm happy about that. He listened with the Doppler and said heartbeat sounded good! I'm kind of not used to the length between appointments now; 4 weeks seems like a long time!

I asked about the testing and maybe you all can help me. I guess it sounded like the order would be: blood draw soon (around 12 weeks) then another draw at 16 weeks, then if they find high probability a materniti 21 type test. I was a little confused because on here I've been reading about the NT scans at around 12 weeks and the materniti21 test results already. He said to talk with my H first and then I can call and schedule things if we want to do it. I guess I was hoping to get a materniti21 first because the answers are more definitive. I don't like the 1 in 1000 chance answers, I feel like they would worry me. IDK! I guess I need to find out more.

QOTW: Have you bought anything for baby?

I have bought some outfits over the past couple of years when I saw something I really liked. After our first ultrasound I bought a few small things, a rattle, stuffed animal, etc. We haven't bought anything big yet, or really done any research either. I need to get going on that!

  • @pblge I'm sorry your NT scan experience wasn't that great; I hope you find a new OB you like!

@yarnymommy‌ Glad your NT scan looked good! Hope you get your other results back soon!

@CaterinaC‌ I'm glad you got to see your baby moving around and measuring well! That's a great deal on the testing, I hope you get good results back soon!

@jszy10‌ I'm sorry the waiting is difficult for you! I think the RE spoiled us because im feeling like that too; 4 weeks between appointments and today all I got was a Doppler!

  • Sorry for the late entry.  I'll echo what everyone else seems to have - weirdness of waiting 4 weeks for the next appointment and abdominal past at the end of last week that made me worry.  I do feel bad about the blatant lies I am telling people.  We know the sex of the baby, and so do our family and friends who know we went through IVF.  However, I don't think it's everyones' business so I don't want to have to answer "why" I do already know.  I figure I'll tell them after my next OB appointment.

QOTW:  I did buy a cool hanging light for the nursery at my husband's hometown fair.  It is really cool, but apparently I do a horrible job describing it based on reactions when I've tried.  It is in the colors I've already picked out - so it was made in lime green, hot pink, white, and a small zebra stripe too.

I'm lucky to be on the tail end of the baby thing so I'm being offered things left and right.  I'll take it as this was an expensive year (our insurance paid nothing).  I think there is a little bit of feeling sorry for me for our whole experience, but I just know they care.  So, I already have a glider (that I'm going to recover), changing table, etc.  I still have a lot to buy/register for.  However, I have hit the lottery in the maternity clothes area.  I will have a decent wardrobe due to everything being loaned to me, and have to buy very little.
  • @stranzm - Oof, I understand the awkwardness of knowing the sex before you're really supposed to. Maybe you can pretend you did on of the blood tests? I'm very jealous of all your maternity clothes! People keep trying to give me clothes that are too big for me, which really isn't the same thing.

@snegde - Glad all is well with you! Hope your second tri is smooth sailing about your bumpy first tri.

    @catlover790

It's a conundrum, right! We had a screened embryo, but still decided to do the NT scan as they can find a lot of other problems there that wouldn't show up in the blood tests. It's also a good chance to see the cute LO. :x One of the big things, for example, is placenta placement. There was a woman posting here (I could dig this up for you, if you'd like) about finding out she had a severely deformed baby during her NT (chromosomal), but she had placenta previa so she might have died if she has miscarried normally. They can also see things like limb deformities. This wouldn't change anything for most infertility grads, but knowing can be helpful. :)

@taahira - Glad everything looked good on the NT scan! Do you know already that it's a boy?

@Canuck13 - Good luck with your NT scan! Hope it goes great!

@Grailseeker14 - Why don't I do one more tomorrow (I have an idea :) ) and you can take over the next week. Sound good?

  • @pblge‌ Thak you very much for your response. It does help that they could see other things too and check for on the ultrasound. My H wants to go ahead and do it just so we can prepare ourselves and not be surprised during birth if there is anything, so as soon as I call insurance to double-check I think we will do it. Thanks for your help! Also, I think another ultrasound would help with PAIF brain ;)
