December 2014 Moms

October bummer

Things are really starting to a get in the spooky spirit for Halloween, but what about us pregnant ladies who absolutely love haunted houses, pumpkin flavored wines, and being out in the crisp October air?!!!

Absolutely nothing about us.

It dawned on me earlier that I will not be able to enjoy those things this year because:

1) they don't typically allow pregnant women into haunted houses.
2) a half of a glass of pumpkin wine is a tease and I would just be doing more harm than good.
3) my allergies are absolutely terrible since becoming pregnant I can barely stand to be outside.

So, mommies, what are you doing to stay festive this Halloween?

Re: October bummer

  • I am a Halloween lover too. I decorated the whole house and yard already. I'm getting in the spirit with 1 pumpkin cappachino once or twice a week as a treat as I am not an everyday coffee drinker. We are going to a pumpkin patch to get our pumpkins today and we are going to a fall festival and a hay ride to get into the spirit as well. This year the fam is doing a wizard of oz theme since my DD (5) just saw it and loved it. Halloween is my fave holiday. If you are up to it throw your own costume party! The planning will get you in the fall mood. Sorry about the allergies! I feel your pain there.

  • My allergies have been on top speed, but that's what Benadryl/zyrtec/neti-pots were invented for :)

And Pumpkin wine sounds super gross.

  • stock up on that seasonal wine! You can have it after baby is born, even if you breastfeed (moderation).

No haunted houses here. I'm the only one who likes them.

Allergies... 3 of the kids have them. :-( luckily not myself.

I am more worried about my free range chickens and the upcoming snow. This is the first year we have had them running free in the yard. Yeah, I may be a hick.

  • Pumpkin wine??? Never heard of it! I'm ashamed! Beer, yes. I have a case waiting for me. But I'm going to a haunted house in a week. And a big jack-o-lantern blaze, and tomorrow is apple/pumpkin picking day, followed by pies. I don't intend to miss fall... You shouldn't either.

  • Nature's spector in the western NC mountains is more than enough to make your heart just explode with seasonal spirit. So using my powers of observation is really helping- really taking in the changes that are occurring around me and getting excited about little things with my son, like when we see Halloween decorations or an incredible yellow tree.
We also read all of our Halloween books and make ginger-dead-men zombie cookies.
Trips to the apple orchard and fall farm festivals here and there. And there's an incredible family friendly but still scary haunted trail at a local brewery coming up.
Stepping outside really early when the air is crisp and my coffee is steaming and noticing all the fallen leaves....
Y'all, I could go on and on. I freaking love fall.
  • Oh sorry you feel bummed but fall is amazing! Harvest festivals, pumpkin patch, apple cider etc etc
  • Where I live (Florida) fall is a joke weather wise but Halloween is my favorite holiday. Since I won't be hitting up any extreme haunted houses like I normally do I will be going to a haunted woods hike at a local state park and some fall festivals.

  • Haha I specifically asked my doctor if I could go into a haunted house...I get scared REALLY easily. She said it's totally fine, but now that you mention it, they may not let me in :(

Our other traditions include painting pumpkins, mulling cider, and having friends over to watch a scary movie while we hand out candy. Those we can still do! Sorry you have allergies...those are the worst.

mothstothemoon we are debating driving out there for maternity photos...it's so tempting! Just gorgeous this time of year.
