Insurance help with breast pump?

just wondering your experience with your insurance provider and if they provided a breast pump to you. If so, which pump did you end up with? Did you get to choose? How long did it take for you to receive it?

Re: Insurance help with breast pump?

  • My experience was that I could never get ahold of a rep who knew anything about it at my insurance. So I went to the medela website. They have a tool where you can put what insurance you have/state or region, and the. It pulls up a list of companies contracted with your specific insurance. I then picked Aeroflow from that list (recommended to me by my BMB) and filled out the form on their site. It's a short form that asks your name/address, insurance info, and doctors name & number. They did all the work for me to confirm with insurance and get a prescription from the doctor. They called Monday, shipped it and I received it Thursday. I contacted them last Thursday initially so the process took 5 business days total.

My insurance covered 100% the medela pump in style starter kit.

  • Yep - the durable medical supply companies really would like to give you a pump and charge your insurance for it! :) I got a list from my insurance company (one of the options under the providers page was medical equipment), picked a company that sold the pump I wanted, and filled out a 2 second form on their website. They contacted my insurance company and few weeks later my pump arrived in the mail.

It should be noted - I went with the Medela PISA. They had all of the options available (messenger bag, backpack, etc), but only the basic model was free, everything else was an upcharge - a pretty steep one. So for way less money I picked out a nice bag to put the pump in when I need to travel with it, and came out way ahead :)
