Ideas for vacation with a 10-11 month old

I was wondering if we could start a thread to share ideas and experiences on planning vacations with LO. We're thinking either during thanksgiving week or some point in December. Would love to go away for a 4-5 days to a location that has things to do with LO (but not necessarily just for LO). I don't want to do Disney yet as I think he is too young to enjoy but would love to hear your ideas. We were initially thinking Costa Rica but not 100% sure. Friends of mine recently went to New Orleans with their 10 month old and said it was just fine except that they took turns to go explore bourbon street at night. Other thoughts are Beach places like Mexico, Florida or national parks like Yosemite. Any other thoughts? I have a pinterest started on vacationing with kids under 1 year old and have some good ideas but wanted to get some opinions here too.

  • You can fly down to Cabo and visit us :) the boys can play and we can drink Margaritas.

You're on the East Coast right? So looking for a short flight maybe? A couple years ago we went to Playa Del Carmen and loved it. Nice resorts usually have child are available if you want some time to yourselves.

  • Well, you could buy an RV.
That's actually on my bucket list :-)

Thank you! I am adding that to my list to explore further.
  • I'd pick a place that has stuff your LO would enjoy -- a great children's museum or zoo or aquarium, etc. Even if you then revisit that site in a few years when he's older.

  • What do you want to do on vacation? Relax and read, sun tan. Swim, etc? Or active stuff, hikes, bikes, jumping off stuff. How important is flight time?

  • Well we want to mostly relax with some activity time in the middle. Like say 2-3 hours of activity then relaxing and then perhaps some more light activity and  then chill the evening. We are not great hikers but could hike or bike say half a day on one of the days.
  • We are discussing a trip to San Diego in June... lots of things to do, and the beach is there too. (DH gets sent there for work so his ticket and hotel are most likely paid for... So it would be my ticket that we'd have to purchase) but it seems like a family friendly vaca spot, with great weather year round.

OMG squeeeee!!!!! You have to plan a GTG with us when you come this way! I've only ever met up with @golfergirl08 but I know there are other bumpies in San Diego as well.

    Sorry to T/J @Hg45, I'm just really excited. ;)

To answer your question, I vote the Smokey Mountains. You can rent a cabin, go explore the mountains, go to Gatlinburg, or Dollywood. I kind of just miss home, so my answer is biased.
  • You can come visit me in Florida...plenty to do here!
  • I would go somewhere that you can rent a place larger than just a hotel room. I wouldn't want to have to sit in a hotel room while DD naps. A hotel suite or apartment would be perfect. A cabin somewhere could be nice too. You could sit outside and read while LO naps. Then you can hike with a pack and explore while LO is awake.

Agree- I would have ideally lived to go to Martha's Vineyard and book a cottage but it's going to be freaking cold so we have to kind of fly south. And if we fly then budget kinda trumps the whole renting a bigger place thing especially if we are planning to go international.
