How often do you and your SO have "grown up time"?

I was inspired by @Jazibel's post. How often are you and your partner getting it on? Are you making efforts to make bedroom time a priority?
Same-sex couple- In love with my awesome wife, A, since 2007
Our son M was born 6.2013

M was conceived via IVF using donor sperm and my wife's eggs. My wife carried.

Now I am starting my second FET with embryos from A's IVF cycle...this is our last shot.

ET 9/15- BFN

  • I second that vote. :-)
  • I third that vote.

It's all very sad... I ignored this poll most of the day because I could not bring myself to vote.

So I take it your vote is not one of the top two options either... ;)

Right? I just don't even know how it works with a baby. The kid won't sleep unless I'm holding him 90% of the time.  :-<

ETA: Pre baby my answer was quite different so I'm going to try not to be too hard on myself about it

  • Sadly, J made the comment, "ooh, twice in one week!!" (In a "this never happens!" sort of way) when we were doing our inseminations....

But honestly, with our pretty much conflicting work schedules, it's not really feasible during the week.

That would be correct. I have broken the anonymity of the voting!

  • I was the first to vote and mine went in the a few times a year category...and we don't even have a child! C could do without it, not me. I've had to learn to deal. Quite honestly though, this TTC crap has put a huge dent on our sex life. The other night we talked about it after some "grown up time" ;) and realized that it hadn't happened since some time before my fresh IVF cycle...in July. It's October....

    Me: 30  DW (aka C): 29

Together since 2/15/11 ~ Legally married in NY on 9/29/12

    ***CP mentioned***

We've been working on baby #1 since July 2013 using Open ID donor sperm.  8 IUI attempts with 5 actual IUIs and one chemical pregnancy.  We have one fresh IVF cycle under our belts as well as a FET.  I have endometriosis and a uterine septum that was corrected via surgery in November 2013.

11/14/14 -  Second HSG shows that tubes are still clear and ute is looking good.

12/6/14 - Started BCPs in prep for IVF #2

12/22/14 - Saline u/s and endometrial scratch (All was clear and OUCH!)

    1/2/15 - Began stimming for IVF #2

     ****All Welcome!****

We are Mommas to four fur babies - 3 dogs and 1 cat.

  • Yes, I demand to know who is gettin some a few nights a week?!?! ;)
And also, this may be a dumb question, but what is this snowflake business? I honestly don't even know what that option is supposed to mean! Just that no one has picked it yet!

  • Oy. This is sad, but also reassuring, ya know?

@KH826 - I think SS means that none of the options really fit your particular circumstance. I almost picked it because I felt like I was in between two of the options listed, but just went with the one that was closest to my situation.

  • I probably don't qualify because we have an11 year old but let me tell you sometimes shes worse then a baby. I could tell you some horror stories about that.  lol We are a few times a month because she goes to her grandma EVERY WEEKEND lol.

  • Thank goodness you guys voted...I was feeling like a weirdo!

@KH826 Special Snowflake is always an answer on bump polls because some one always has some issue with the options presented :)

So totally NSFW (and mainly science fiction) but this sparked some exciting activity for us:
We made fun of all of the drawings, then did it a few times :)

LBD sucks out loud, and it is so hard with a baby and TTC. I swear M wakes up every time we try.

  • I'm actually kind of relieved - I thought we were the only ones!

LBD sucks, man :( I would approve of a "spice things up" thread!  I'm certainly open to suggestions!  It's crazy because every time we DO have sex we're like "Why don't we do this more often?"  It's not that it doesn't feel good, I just think we've gotten lazy.

    HAHAHAHA

This is totally cracking me up!

Thank you, thank you very much for this!

  • Have any of you seen Blue is the Warmest Color? Holy sex scenes, Batman. I think they did all the sex positions in that Cosmo article. Speaking of the movie, that might be a way to get your engines going (in response to the Freaky Friday thread). You can feel all fancy watching a French indie film, while using it for inspiration. :)

  • DW and I are on the few times per week train.  We are both super sexual people so needless to say it works for both our benefit.  ;)

I am newish to the board. I intro-ed a few months ago, but have not participated (just lurked since). I did participate in this poll and hopefully this will be the start of more active participation for me. I think I was the first to respond "a few times a week". My wife and I make sure we never go more than a week without having sex and average a few times a week. We realized early on in our relationship that the physical closeness and intimacy was very important for our relationship. It helps us feel very connected to each other and that connectedness spills over into all other areas of our relationship. We do have busy lives -- we both work full time and we have two active kids with one on the way. Sometimes that means we have to schedule sex or rally when we both would probably rather sleep, but we have never been sorry we did. If we are coming up on a week without we make sure to get busy! One thing that helps is we make sure we hire a babysitter at least once every other week for a date night. Even just having a date can make you feel more romantically connected to your spouse rather than just a co-parent with them. Anyway, hopefully some of that will resonate with those who were asking for advice.
  • Thank goodness for this post . I have been trying to think of ways to spice it up latley. Between helping with a big wedding in a week her brothers . Not to mention they have a little one on the way. So that's more on too of that. And my poor wife's foot is still trying to heal from surgery. So needless to say there won't be any crazy Cosmo suggestions that are to spicy right now. But I will say I miss our closeness. The small tender moments that still make your heart beat rapidly and your mind race for days afterwards:) Plus we put our operation baby on hold a bit with everything so busy and crazy right now. Maybe we can spend some time soon. Our big vacation is planned soon so I have some ideas. I'm going to really try and pull out all the stops. I'm thinking maybe lay out a tux for her on our formal night during the cruise. Find a way to get a accurate sizzle and buy her a new ring. And maybe find a way to create a enjoyable evening in the most romantic way. Maybe rose petals and champagne. I really just feel this whole whirlwind of a month has taken away so much us time. I have to setup a way to get it back. Confession I so did not want to answer the poll, my results would not of even hot and steamy. I do remember when they where though. Well ladies I totally understand what each one of you are saying . With our two kids and laundry and regular life we have to plan that's for sure. Well going to work on operation seven seas romance:) talk to you later goodnight.
  • Glad we aren't alone here. I'm honestly not too surprised by the results though, if I have a few free minutes I'm generally going to choose to shower or sleep. And I don't really feel bad about that either lol
