September 2014 Moms

Third time moms?

How's it going?

Overall I guess we're okay here, but my 5 year old is having more tantrums than it seems a 5 year old should. I haven't had an extended period alone with all 3 yet since DH hasn't gone back to work yet and the older 2 are gone a little bit for kinder and preschool.

Oddly after the major guilt you feel when you have your 2nd, I don't have much of that going on.

Tips...hints...commiserate !?!

Re: Third time moms?

  • Things have been going really well here, 1000 times easier than our transition to two kids. Dh has been back to work for a month now and our days are fine. Bedtime is a little hairy, dh is at work until midnight so I'm alone there.

We had a rough night last night with the guilt and the big kids wanting something that I just couldn't so (lay with them at bed, but the baby was shrieking) I was pretty upset about that. Of course today we are having a rough day with listening and stuff so I'm feeling pretty frustrated but overall it's been great. I do wish my middle one was able to go to school so she could get out a little more but she is only 2.

  • You ladies are my heroes! I'm having a hard enough time with my first LO...I couldn't imagine 3!

  • You know what I'm struggling with? Laundry!! I did 4 loads on Saturday and another 4 yesterday. Holy moly, how are we going through so many clothes?!

  • Shimmer I feel like this has been my easiest recovery as well. Maybe my expectations were just so low? But most of my pregnancy aches were gone within hours of birth and I really felt great.

  • Glad to hear others are doing good with 3 or more..it gives me hope. My mom left a week ago and ive been struggling doing this on my own with DH working all the time. I had a complete meltdown yesterday. The oldest is in school all day which helps. I for sure did not have the guilt this time like i did with the second. Good luck to everyone!
  • @Irisheyes1247‌ the one thing I'm dreading when DH goes back to work (he works 24 hour shifts) is bedtime. DS1 is super needy at bedtime and now that we are transitioning him from the crib to a bed, it's even more difficult to get him to sleep. DH has been handling bedtime since LO was born and it's been so nice!

Bedtime is so frustrating to begin with, but being by myself and add in a hungry screaming baby makes it a special sort of shitty. It's hard asking a two and four year old to be understanding all the time. I wish bedtime was in the morning when I had more patience lol

  • I only have a third part-time (stepdaughter) and I'm barely making it... Kudos to all you mamas, nothing but respect from me!
  • It's funny that so many of us have off shift hubbies. Mine does 2- midnight as well and bedtimes are hard. I totally agree that it's when I have an empty tank as far as patience and energy.

    I'm rolling with my motto...
"I'm always the best mom I can be, some days are better than others!"

Glad to know I'm in good company.

  • My almost 5 year old is driving me insane.  he's throwing tantrums, not listening and being really mean to my 2 year old.  Thankfully he goes to school most days, which saves my sanity.  DS2 goes to daycare on Mondays and Thursdays, so I'm able to have some 1 on 1 time with DS3.  Having breaks has helped me transition to 3 kids nicely.  If I were home with all 3 all the time, I'd lose my mind.

  • I am overwhelmed. Today LO will not let me put her down and I feel like I am neglecting my older kids. I feel like I am failing. DH works 80-100hours per week so I dont have much help.

  • Next week will be interesting here as dh goes back to work on Monday. He's been home for 3 weeks entertaining the toddler while the baby has been keeping me busy.

I am lucky that this lo is so quiet and just goes with the flow so far. I hope it continues. It's been an easy transition to have a fourth kiddo so far but it is probably made easier because of the age gap between the older and younger kids. I am super nervous for what's coming because it's been a long time since I have had a toddler and a newborn at the same time. :-SS
  • The transition had been rough on my girls. I'm sort of in a different situation since I've git two 2yos and a nb. The girls love their brother. They ask for him and let me know when he's upset and check on him all the time. They have been acting out a lot and throwing tantrums. Dh goes back to work Tuesday after being off for 3 weeks. I'm nervous to be on my own with them all during the day. I have been feeling like a terrible mother bc I can't give the girls the attention they had been getting before, especially considering squish eats every hour During the day. I also feel terrible (thanks to my mom) bc I didn't hold the girls nearly as much as I'm holding squish and I'm enjoying squish more it seems to her. So thanks mom, I feel more guilty than I have since finding out I was pregnant.

Do you have a carrier of some sort you can put the baby in?  That has saved me many times when he won't let me put him down and I need to tend to the other kids.
