Am I being dramatic? (Lower back pain)

starting a day or two ago I started experiencing right lower back pain like a pinching feeling whether I move or not. I've been taking it easy and I've been resting on my days off. I have work this weekend and it's not totally physical, but I'm a cna at a hospital so we do a lot of lifting of patients which I wouldn't have thought twice about until I started this pain. I feel like I've pulled a muscle and relaxing, stretching, seeing a chiropractor, hasn't helped any it seems. Am I dramatic if I go to the after hours doctors office? It's not an emergency room but still I'm just very uncomfortable with this sharp pinching pain. I don't want to go and look dumb and them just send me home to tell me to rest

Ehhh, I honestly don't know what much more they could do for you...But if you're worried, it can always help give you peace of mind!

  • Trust your instincts.  I know that's an annoying thing to say, but I just knew my back pain was something worse than JUST back pain and it ended up being a kidney stone.  Do what you need to do to feel comfortable.  Whether that means going to doctor after hours, urgent care, the ER or calling your OB constantly - you need to be your own advocate!  Best of luck.  I hope you get some relief soon.

  • I had really intense sciatic pain pre-BFP (like I could barely walk) and all they could do for me is give me pain killers...and now that we can't take pain killers...

I might call my OB first and see what they say. Only because back pain and discomfort is quite common so they should be able to help identify a problem worth a visit and offer safe suggestions for helping relieve the pain.

I am getting some lower back pain especially after my mornings in surgery where I am standing still. I am seriously considering getting a prenatal massage to see if that helps.
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

I was able to take very low dose hydrocodone during the passing of my kidney stone last week.  That helped immensely.

  • I just feel like I can't move any of my torso without the pain taking my breath away. I'm going to call the ob and see what they think. I've already had sciatic and I know it's not that. Hoping it's not kidney stones!

I did too actually. My chiropractor guessed that I was pregnant. I vist the chiropractor regularly because one of my legs is shorter than the other which causes scoliosis. Anyhow, he knew that something was unusual, turns out I was like 2 days past conception (and we weren't actively trying).

  • You're a CNA, you know how to help lower and prevent pain. If you can't apply a solution to it then I don't think it's dramatic to seek help.

  • Doctors office is only going to tell you to take pain killers like @foxslaw said. I have a long relationship with S/I joint pain in my left hip. Best thing to do is stretch, walk, chiro, sleep on your other side, don't sit a lot and use ice packs/heat pads. It is not going to go away overnight. Sometimes it can take a couple weeks to get my hip back to normal but, at least you can feel it getting progressively better. Definitely a pain in the rear but, if you stay ahead of the pain it's not so bad.

  • If it does turn out to be something sciatic, I would recommend a prenatal cradle. I had sciatic issues with DS and I'm a hair stylist so my back tends to hate me. I got mine on Amazon for $40 after shipping (still cheaper than any of the stores) and I love it! It was uncomfortable until I actually got a larger bump and it's a pain having the full harness since the straps cross in the front but the plain band one works, too. I carry all out front and I wish I'd had this harness with DS cos I'm already SO much more comfortable that I was 5 years ago!
