Re: Supplementing

  • @Stephanie2378I followed you here from the FEB15 board. I'm interested in getting information and advice for supplementing while breastfeeding as well.

I'm a FTM and I plan to pump and attempt to breastfeed. I don't know how I'll feel about it for personal reasons. (Please don't judge). I think supplementing will make me feel more comfortable as well throughout the process of pumping/breastfeeding as well.

  • A lot of women supplement, mainly due to low milk supply, and are successful. Like PP said, you want to probably exclusively BF for the first few weeks, to get a good supply going. But, you always have the option to pump and bottle feed. So many women go back to work and BF (I did) and that in itself gives you a lot of freedom. Pumping at work gives you milk you can use, or you can also just do formula if pumping at work is a problem. But, regardless of whether you BF or FF, LOs eat all the time when they are first born, so someone will be feeding them almost all the time those first few weeks.  I also agree with PP that you should wait until LO gets here to make your decision.  It's hard to tell how you'll feel in advance.  GL with your pregnancies, Feb15 ladies!
