So, I took DS to the doctor today thinking he had the flu-he had a sudden onset of fever and feeling down and the school sent out an email earlier this week that 2 kids in his class have been diagnosed with the flu.
Well it's not the flu in our case but it is HFM. The doctor said "no day care today!" Which if course is a given. And we are going into a 3 day weekend for his DC as well, so that's 4 days he'll automatically be home anyway. But he didn't specify beyond that and now that I'm home I'm reading the flyer they sent home that kids can be contagious through stools for "weeks".
How long should I expect keep him home from DC after his fever breaks? The rash in his case is there, but it's not very obvious-DC didn't think anything of it and neither did I.
I kind of want to have an idea of what to expect before I call his DC. Their policy is basically no signs of "contagion" or fever for 24 hours.
Re: HFM Disease-how long to be away from DC
My daughter was just out of HFM. She had a pretty bad rash though. When I called her daycare, they said as long as she had not had a fever in 24 hours and the rash was dried up, she could come back. Like I said, her rash was pretty bad so she ended up being out most of the week.
Good luck! My husband ended up getting it too and it was not pretty.
My dr said fever free.. So, we go with the fever free for 24 hours rule.
I have a Daughter born 2/26/2013. She is pretty much amazing!
