I get it, hair falls out due to hormone changes, but this is crazy how much I've lost this past week!! I am exclusively breastfeeding and am curious as to why it waited until 4mos postpartum when I'm producing about the same amount of estrogen? I seriously feel like Christine Taylor in "The Craft"!
How much hair have you lost?

  • Seriously... mine is TERRIBLE!  I have thin hair to begin with.  I feel like I will be bald by Christmas!  I was just complaining to my fellow teachers during passing period!  Not only that, but it is like DD has a way of finding it and getting it all tangled up in her hands... or mouth.  Sick!

My husband has found my hair in his food that I've made for him twice. I feel pretty awful about it.

This just happened to me last night. My hair is everywhere! When I run my fingers through it, it comes out in clumps. I heard this can last up to a year!!!
  • I'm glad I had thick hair to begin with because otherwise I'd need a wig by now.  I have spots towards the front of my hairline that are REALLY thin almost bald spots.  I don't think others notice as much as I do but it bothers me because my hair and my nose are the only things about me that I've ever "liked".

I mentioned this somewhere else (FB maybe?) that even the texture of my hair is changing.  It is much oilier than usual and feels coarse.  I'll be glad when it is back to normal.

  • My hair is also everywhere, dh is so annoyed. LO gets his hands in there too so I wear it in a pony tail all the time which isn't helping. I cut 5 inches off of my hair which helped for about a week.

  • @njbabymama‌ Hmmm I do not know?
  • I could've provided a full head of hair for small (bald) village by now... My hair didn't start falling out until after I stopped breastfeeding, which was around 10 weeks PP.
  • I haven't had any noticeable hair loss - but I love The Craft reference!

  • @njbabymama I don't think it has anything to do with increased pump vs BFing. My friend's having the same issue and she only BFs because DD won't take a bottle anymore

I'm also starting to find mine annoying. I've found a few hairs wrapped around DD's fingers. Poor girl. I've noticed hers is finally starting to fall out too. She has only mama milk so I'm wondering if it's part of the hormone change? AF also showed up this week. I'm pretty much over this whole PP thing lol!

  • I've noticed just a little more than normal, but not clumps
  • Same here! I shed a lot before I was pregnant, so it feels like that is just "back" again.

I forgot how much I hated it.

Also curious why it is happening at nearly 4 months...and I had the TINIEST bit of spotting the other day when LO took a long nap. It went away and I still have no period, but eesh. No thank you.

  • I don't think it has anything to do with BF v/s pumping or not because I FF (BF didn't work for me I had no milk and stopped attempting at 2 weeks).  My hair loss didn't start until 10-12 w PP.

  • My doctor said it's normal--I forget the technical two name term for hair loss after a "big stress" such as childbirth to the body. Some women experience it right after birth and others months later. I am losing a lot too! I got my hair cut and highlighted yesterday so hoping that helps a little. If nothing else, makes me feel better! And I love the movie The Craft lol!! @RedMar‌

  • I'm losing hair like crazy. My shower is so gross.

  • So much hair.  There are hair tumble weeds in the bathroom.  I find hairs everywhere, especially on LO.  I've even found a few in his diaper.  I don't even know how that happens.  :(

I have thin hair so losing hair sucks. I miss my pregnancy hair.
    Edit: post to soon
  • My horrible hair loss started a month after I weaned from BF. It's still terrible, two months later. I thought hair loss was related to hormones and BF, but clearly it's not. Must be all the parenting stress!

  • I already have fine hair to begin with and I actually have bald spots along my hairline and they were just starting to grow back from when I had my son.
  • @amoot890‌ - thanks for clearing that up! I wonder if there is correlation between excessive hair loss and getting your first PP period? Have you "shedding" ladies had AF visit? I have not...
  • @Hairstylist16‌ - that's a relief that it does grow back eventually!
  • @Hairstylist16‌ I have bald spots too along my hairline =[[
  • I am practically bald now. I had thick curly hair and now it's stringy and sparse. I even have to put some brown eyeshadow on my scalp in the front of my head bc there's so little hair there now. Ugh. I took a picture of the hair balls from my shower the other day bc my husband said I was over exaggerating. This is two showers' worth...
  • It's only been recently that I really notice the hair loss in the shower. Well, and also it's sticking to my baby. I'm also noticing dandruff! I guess it's also related to hormone changes. Anyone else?
