Daycare Questions

I have a bunch of FTM AKA "I have no idea what I'm doing...still" questions. I'm asking you instead of my local Mom groups because you're brilliant. Duh.

-What do you dress your baby in for daycare? It's getting chilly outside, so we bring her in a short or long sleeved onesie and cotton pants then put a warmer hoodie on that she doesn't wear inside throughout the day, just for the walk over. We always put socks on too. You?

-Do you ever let them wear something with a hood? (Or consider it not safe/uncomfortable for naps?)

-Do you send them with teething rings or toys that they love or do you always keep those at home? I have not gotten her the teething rings I plan to buy yet, but she is putting everything in her mouth these days. Not sure what I should be doing regarding this. (She does have her own pacifiers there, but only takes one for naps/when she is sleepy.)

I had other questions but LO woke me up 5 times last night so um, I forgot. I'll ask them later, or probably forget to, again.
Feel free to use this thread to ask your questions too.
Love you, mean it.

Re: Daycare Questions

  • Relax - you're doing a great job!  :)

What do you dress your baby in for daycare? If its really chilly in the morning I leave LO in his jammies and bring a change of clothes.  Our daycare will dress him.  (one of our caregivers actually said she loves dressing babies...).  I do always change his diaper before heading to daycare and of course if his clothes were wet I'd just dress him at home.  (Its sad to say but there is mom at our daycare who brings her LO in his soaked wet diaper from the night every morning).
I also cover LO in a blanket in his carseat.  I have the drape cover, but he likes to look around.
-Do you ever let them wear something with a hood? (Or consider it not safe/uncomfortable for naps?) He has a hooded zip up jacket that he wears sometimes, but usually takes it off when we are indoors.  I hadn't thought much about him wearing it if he was sleeping.

-Do you send them with teething rings or toys that they love or do you always keep those at home?  He has a pacifier on a string that he likes to chew on.  Its a Soothie and he prefers to chew on the rim and suck on the ribbon rather than actually suck on the pacifier.  He has 2 blankets that stay at daycare during the week and I bring home to wash on the weekends.  One is light weight and the other is fleece.  They have so many toys at our daycare that I dont think we'll be bringing any with him.  That could end up being an issue when he gets older - plus these ladies have enough to keep track of trying to keep his socks on him, they dont need to keep track of his chew toys too!

  • @kaysa2 I am seriously loving the sound of this poncho. Where did you get it?
  • -What do you dress your baby in for daycare? I always make sure that whatever's she's wearing has long pants and long sleeves and socks. We put the carseat cover/pod thing on already so that's like a built in warm blanket all around her. Babe seems to be like her parents...does NOT like the cold!

-Do you ever let them wear something with a hood? Yeah she occasionally wears hoods. I did not know this wasn't safe?

-Do you send them with teething rings or toys that they love or do you always keep those at home? She goes with her paci and sleep sack but I keep all the toys at home.
  • Clothes: long sleeves pants and socks. Also a long sleeve fleece wearable blanket for his crib
Hoods: sent a zip up hooded jacket for when he goes outside on walks but no other hooded clothes
Toys: not yet but was wondering about teething rings. Speaking of teething rings @kaysa2‌ what would you recommend for nonplastic teethers?

  • Did your LOs nap ok when they first started daycare? We just started this week (13 weeks old) and baby is NOT napping. Then he goes to bed at 6 o'clock because he's so exhausted!

  • @kaysa2‌ that's exactly what I was looking for. I ordered the kringelring. Thanks!

  • My son's preschool takes him outside for 30 minutes per day so I dress him for the weather outside and they can peel off layers when he is inside. I don't send teethers, just his paci. They have a large bin of infant toys. He does wear hooded jackets, but they are removed for sleeping. His center only allows a receiving blanket and sheet in his crib and has a strict sleeping policy.
  • Clothing - Usually a short sleeve onesie and long pants (with socks if the pants dont come with footies). We also give her a little sweater that daycare may or may not take off during the day. I am pretty sure they take off her pants after the first diaper change because she will have blow outs, but they omly change her onesie and not pants.

    Hoods - yes

Toys - The daycare doesnt let us bring our own other than pacifier for naps. These days she has her own assigned towel to chew on and it helps to soak up the saliva too.

Naps - She started daycare at 3 months and so far no problem. Daycare said it was a bit more difficult the first couple days but thats expected.
  • @mullenem  I ordered those last night too!  I love Amazon so much, all the stuff I ordered  yesterday evening shipped at 2 am and will arrive today!
