Fit Friday

Happy Friday, everyone! This is a check in for anyone trying to be active (even a little bit) during pregnancy. If you're new jump on in.

So, how was your week? Fit in some exercise? Anything giving you trouble?

We are actually going camping this afternoon and I'm really excited. I plan to do nothing but stick my feet the creek, read, and eat s'mores. But I'll sneak in a short hike, too. This got me thinking -
QOTW: Have you fit in a little getaway this pregnancy? If you could slip away to anywhere for a few days, where would it be?

Re: Fit Friday

  • I just realized only 8 more Fridays til my EDD. Crazy!!

I'm so happy to finally say I had a good week - I got in 3 walks and a short Pilates DVD. Woo! It had been crazy trying to get enough done at work this week to really get away this weekend (I'm a teacher an October weekends are almost always all grading all the time), so I'm pretty pleased to have gotten in some exercise.

We went to DC early in this pregnancy and it was pretty great. My favorite part was riding bikes everywhere, actually. I'm daydreaming a lot now about Maui (we went last winter and it was amazing!) I think what I really want is how relaxed I felt on that trip. Hopefully I'll get a little taste of that this weekend.

Ps - I ordered a fitness ball this week to sit on, and I had to laugh at the packaging. I don't think I'll be using it like that!

  • Been to Martha's Vineyard a few times but no place really on vacation. See the dietitian today to start my baby diet. Had the ultra sound this am to see how big the baby is and he is doing good. I got to see him in 3D.

  • Still getting in all of my workouts.  I missed kickboxing the past two weekends because I was away, so I am glad that I'll be able to do that tomorrow morning. Eating healthy is going to be a challenge this weekend because we have DD's birthday party on Sunday! I also won't be able to go to Zumba on Sunday because of the party, but I'm hoping to get up early and go for a run instead.

We went to CO for a week in July and took some other trips with DD but that's it until the baby comes.

  • @anna930 - I was daydreaming about camping with LO next year, especially after I read this blog post about backpacking with kids and baby: https://sayyes.com/2014/09/backpacking-with-kids-in-yosemite.html

We may try to sneak in a trip while I'm still on leave and before baby is on solid food (less to pack!) That may be a good window for the 1st trip :)

@katnine Hooray for a good u/s! That's great. How are you feeling about working with the dietician?

@colliebabe congrats on another good week! I hope kickboxing feels good tomorrow. What kind of party are you having for your DD?

@gradschoolmom1234 - It may be premature to be impressed! We booked this site months ago, and didn't really think about how different it would be to be camping at 32 weeks. We're bringing an air mattress, and we even upgraded to a bigger tent. And we'll only be about 90 minutes from home, so if I wuss out, we can always just go sleep at home ;) BTW the fitness ball is great for relieving tailbone aches. I haven't had it too bad yet (Fx), but it still feels like a relief to sit on it for a while.

@hufflepuff42 I was kind of expecting you to say Hogwarts, not Germany...

  • My week was okay...short intro, I'm 30 weeks and have had a great (knocks wood) pregnancy so far. 2 weeks ago I got really bad pain in my pelvis so I stopped walking. Up until that point I had been walking at least 4 times a week, so I was really bummed. I may try and take a 10 minute walk this week and see how I feel. I joined the YMCA and hope to start swimming next week.

QOTW: Have you fit in a little getaway this pregnancy? If you could slip away to anywhere for a few days, where would it be? We went on a babymoon to St Kitts and Nevis in July....awesome! we have a mini babymoon to this fancy lodge/farm about two hours away in November...I'll be 35 weeks i guess. Really looking forward to that. We are toying with a short day trip to the mountains to take maternity pics (and we love Asheville NC anyway) but I feel like we're running out of time lol

Week was good, made it to the gym 4 times, took a cross circuit class on Tuesday that whooped by butt! So many lunges and squats! My legs were so sore and I had to walk so slow everywhere on Wednesday.  I hate looking like the typical waddling preggo lady!

Took a trip to OBX around 20 weeks, then a weekend in Delaware at the beach for 4th of July.  Both were nice, but I'd say my real relaxation with my husband has been having him home so much more lately.  He got laid off from retail in April then just got a job part time a few months ago to help extend his severance, and these 5 hour shifts he's been working 3-4 days a week make it so much more enjoyable at home.  We're able to do so much more together and see each other more that it feels like we're on vacation : ) He just got hired full time retail so I'm glad we'll have more $$ but it's right back to the old days...

I made it to the gym three times this week :).  Also had two walks on top of that.  Definitely feeling pressure in my lower abdomen now and having some braxton hicks at night, so I'm trying to slow it down a bit.

We are going away to Whistler for the night tomorrow (although sharing a room with another couple, so not so romantic ;) ).  Also may be going to Victoria for a weekend at the end of October.  We are just in the middle of booking a trip to Maui in April though!  Looking forward to relaxing in the sun and I think it will be doable with the LO at 4 months.

  • I was on vacation (trip back home) this week and part of last week so exercising went wayyyyy down on the priority list. But I got up and walked this morning, so hopefully I'll get back to my normal routine next week!

If we could go anywhere, I'd go back to Venice, Italy! Or I would go to Paris & London!

  • I've missed check in for a few weeks and have been really bad about working out do I guess there has been nothing to check in about! I've been walking all around town with DS and I think I've made it to 1 barre class in the last 3 weeks. I'm hoping to make it to a class this weekend and start "working out" in our pool and lifting a little bit.

We had a short vacation/visit with family and friends in Sept. I wish we had the money for a real vacation...maybe one day.

I did Crossfit 4 times, and one prenatal yoga session. After my workout on Sunday, my hips and lower abs were pretty sore for a couple of days, so I'm going to be seriously modifying what I do from here on. I think there will be lots of rowing at an easy pace and light farmer carries.

We took a couple of trips to visit family over the summer, and one of them we extended to a vacation in Quebec. We spent a weekend camping in September, and we're going to Napa for a weekend in November (I'm driving). If we could go anywhere, it would probably be Hawaii. We actually looked at going there, but the cost of the flight and hotel for a few days makes it a little impractical when we could do a getaway closer to home for a lot less. We might still do something like that in Monterey, maybe, before the EDD.

  • A good swimming week, though I am slower all the time now. I know things are going downhill when the best part of the swim is the hot shower afterwards...

Didn't really travel this summer. We went to my parents' place for a long weekend when my brother and his family travelled up from PA. It was a very hot weekend but great to see everyone again.

If I could go anywhere? In my current cumbersome and easily tired condition? I think I'd rather stay home... It is Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and we opted out of visiting the inlaws 8 hours away.
  • I'm so glad to see that everyone is still keeping up with being active this late in the game!
I made it to the gym twice...we are tearing up all the floors in our house (all except the bathrooms) so it has been a hectic and exhausting week.
DH and I went on an anniversary road trip from the Midwest to California with stops in 6 different states along the way. We're hoping to go to the city that is just 1.5 hours away at the end of November for the weekend...nothing major, just one last getaway.
  • Hi all - Just now getting back to camping! Sorry I couldn't reply to your posts earlier. It turns out camping while pregnant is fine, but camping with the dog is tricky. He was not too thrilled about sleeping in a tent :(

@linden25 Congrats on another good week!

@xc1148 welcome! sorry to hear about the pelvic pain. I hope swimming feels great :)

@nbateman5 Congrats on a great week! Sorry you ended up more sore than you meant to!

@brookey79 - Another good week! I think Maui in April sounds wonderful. I know some people think it is crazy to travel with baby, but lots of others have told me it is actually easier when they're that small.

@love2travel2014 - Good luck getting back into your routine. Sounds like you started off well already! And Venice is so wonderful. That's one of the places we went on our honeymoon and I just loved it.

@marriedinaugust getting in a little exercise in the pool sounds great. Setting small, do-able goals for yourself is really smart :)

@apsalartoll It makes sense to be doing some modifications if you were so sore. How do you like your prenatal yoga class?

@mousy345 Congrats on keeping up with your swimming, even if it is slow ;) Happy belated Thanksgiving!

@drmh22 Wow, sounds like a great roadtrip!
