Come on, Kid...

Went in for our second attempt at the NT scan. Both times now, the baby wouldn't hold still long enough or get into the correct position for the technician to get the measurements. Took 2 sonographers today to try and get the little booger into position, they both failed. Going to just have to go off blood test results. I'm glad the baby is so active, but seriously? Cooperate, kid. The one sonographer asked if this was our first and said good because we are going to have our hands full. It was so surreal to see the baby moving around, bouncing and wiggling on the monitor, but not feeling anything yet.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

Re: Come on, Kid...

  • I hope that doesn't happen to me. I didn't even realize that was a possible issue :( I'm going in tomorrow for mine but it's the last day that I can do it in the window they gave me. I chose it because my work schedule makes it hard for me to take days off and tomorrow worked best for my boss.

Either way, must have been very cool to see your baby! I'm looking forward to that!

  • Our NT scan went fine and we were able to get the measurement, but I totally get your feeling of surrealism. Watching the baby bounce around and kick but not being able to feel it is just crazy!

  • We went in for our NT scan today and the tech was trying for a good 20-30 min to get a good picture or get it to flip around. The baby was moving it's arms and legs all over the place but refused to flip around so we could get a better picture. She had me get up and use the bathroom in the middle to see of it would flip over. Nothing was working. Finally at the end she said she got one measurement and verified with another tech that it was good enough so we didn't have to go back for a 2nd attempt. We'll see the results in about 5 days.

  • Same happened at my NT scan. I was told I'm having a wild child :)
  • This happened every time we had an ultrasound with DS. Never stayed still long enough for anything but the chance for our doctor to spot his penis. And to this day, this child can't sit still.

  • This happened to me today! Baby was facing toward my back and was nice and comfy in that position. Baby refused to move and it took about 20 mins for he/she to cooperate. Hoping and praying for healthy results!
  • Lol mine too, facing the spine and not too interested in moving.
  • My baby wouldn't sit still during my NT scan either. The sonographer only just managed to measure the nuchal fold before baby started flipping about again. She had me moving around in all kinds of positions to try and get a profile shot of baby's nasal bone but baby refused to cooperate. I had to go back a week later for another scan to see the nose. Luckily that time baby cooperated perfectly.

  • That happened with my DS. I took the Maternit21 test and all came back fine. And, DS IS very active!

I had my NT scan on Monday and the baby was doing flips nearly the entire time. We didn't end up getting the measurement but the blood test results came back great, so I'm not having another u/s for it. I like that the blood test provided odds - for example, before the test my odds for Down Syndrome was said to be 1/700, and is now 1/5,327. Hopefully the blood test will give you the same reassurance.

ETA: they did manage to get a nasal bone measurement which looked good, but they were being very picky about the position for the neck measurement.
  • This happened at mine. I didn't know I had to have a full bladder so I chugged water right before and when it came down for the scan, baby was not budging. The tech poked and poked at my tummy with the gadget thing and had me move this way and that. Then had me drink loads of water and go for a walk; still wouldn't budge. Then I had to pee. Then we tried again. Then I had to pee. 1 hour later, doctor said it was fine. As we were wrapping up, baby flipped around -_-

  • Mine was today and yes, baby kept moving! She was able to get the measurements but it took awhile. At first it was turned weird, then briefly was in a good position, rolled on her stomach, kept bouncing all over!
Sorry you weren't able to get the measurements, but at least you got to check baby out twice for the trouble!

Mine moves like a whirling dervish...and I agree--so odd it's flipping out in there and I can't feel it yet. I feel like when I look at the screen, I'm just watching tv. Surreal. Still haven't heard hb by Doppler because it doesn't stay still long enough, and couldn't get great NT pics. I'm hoping it cooperates for the AS.
I felt the same way about watching it on the screen! It was very surreal...
