help with gas?

LO is 5.5 weeks and EBF. I'm kinda at my wits end and don't know what else I can do.

LO had always had gas, but The past 2 or 3 days baby has been in absolute pain. He's not sleeping more than 2.5 hours at a time and is always waking up screaming bloody murder arching his back and kicking his legs, screaming so much he's red to purple amd sweaty. He's inconsolable until he eats, but then a few minutes later hes yelling till he eother farts or poops which he does many times a day. Sometimes it's a blowout, sometimes it's hardly anything.

We've been giving him gas drops with every feeding, or every 2 hours if he's awake, gerber soothe probiotic drops daily. He burps one or two good burps after eating. Idk what else I can do. I feel awful cuz i can tell how much pain he is in. The only thing that's been working is bicycle his legs.

He has had a couple of green poops but not more than 1 per day. His pediatrian didn't seem worried about the green and just said that gas is normal.

I feel like my baby is being tortured with how much pain he is in though. Any help is appreciated

Tl; DR help with gas remedies? ? Baby is in obvious pain and I don't know what else to do.

Re: help with gas?

  • I cut dairy out of my diet for this very problem, and it's gotten much better! It took a few days to notice a difference and a couple of weeks to get all the freeman cleared up.

  • I was going to suggest the same thing as pp - cut out dairy. I had to do this with DD #2 - she was miserable until I did so. Also, in general watch what you eat. Tomatoes, spicy foods, etc - these can also cause gas. A lot of times it's trial and error until you figure out exactly what foods are doing it, but definitely start with dairy and see if it makes a difference.

You can also massage their little tummies. If you massage from their left hip across the belly under the belly button towards the right hip, sometimes this can help.

Look out baby #3 is on his/her way!
