wheezing

Is wheezing an emergency? I don't think my child is wheezing, he is stuffy and for a minute I was concerned that he might be. But, our ped. office always acts like you must get their ASAP if wheezing occurs, as they do with some non emergent symptoms, eg a fever. I just was wondering what you do if your kiddo wheezes in the middle of the night

Re: wheezing

  • As an asthmatic, I air on the side of caution. But it depends on what their wheezing sounds like. Is it rattling and raspy like they can't catch their breath? Or whistling or wet? Is the child sick (meaning pneumonia/bronchitis)? Sometimes it doesn't warrent assn emergency visit, but sometimes it does.

I'd take him to see the doc. Better safe than sorry.
