Never did. My mom would send me to other kids houses when she found out they had it so I could "get it over with" but I never did. My brother never either.
Nope. No vaccine either. Apparently I got lucky...as I was tested when I was pregnant with Nikita and I have the immunity (not sure if thats the right term) as if I had had them/been vaccinated.
I have never had them. Growing up, I was exposed to them a few times, and we always assumed I was immune. They tested my immunity when I was pregnant with P and we found out that I'm not. I got the vaccine two months or so after he was born.
My mom says I had them very mildly three times. I'm not even sure that's possible but I do remember having them once when I was 4 and my brother was 2.
My moms says I only got like two spots. So I don't know if a mild case like that would even confer immunity. I should probably go get my titer checked.... *worried*
I had them as a baby with my twin sister & our older brother. Then, I got them again in ninth grade. When I went to the doctor they gave me something so they wouldn't spread all over my body the second time, so it wasn't so bad.
I had them when I was 3 or 4. My brothers were 5 and a baby at the time and both had them at the same time. My uncle, who assumed he must've had them already and played with us during that time, found out he did not in fact have them and got a pretty bad case.
Oh no - so many of you have miserable stories I'm glad out kids don't have to have it.
FFFC: part of me feels like it's a rite of passage that our kids are going to be missing out on. I know that's stupid, and L is vaccinated. But still, just a tiny little part of me was resistant...
I had the pox when I was 6. I gave it to my entire first grade class.

This kid may not have a lot of bowel, but he has plenty of guts! DS born at 34 weeks with (surprise!) gastroschisis turned short bowel syndrome. 131 days in the NICU, 7 trips to the OR, G-button, daily TPN....
We are impatiently awaiting the day we can say goodbye to his girlfriend Ivy for good.
I'm so glad this didn't turn into a pox party thread. I have all the eyerolls and rage for pox parties. They are still a thing and my last BMB got into it pretty hard when our babes were about the same age as our LOs are now. It's stupid.

I had no idea those were still a thing... there is a chickenpox vaccine now. Those parties were to get it over with while your children were young seeing as it's more dangerous to have as an adult, right? There is no need to "get it over with" now. Weird.

I kind of feel the same way, it wasn't that horrible to have. I lived in a small town and everyone had them about the same time.

Exactly. So to expose your child needlessly is ridiculous. That was the first time I realized this particular mom didn't vaccinate her kids. So no gtgs for us.
Nope. I remember my mom trying to get me around kids in middle school who had it to avoid me getting it as an adult. Never got it so I got the vaccine.
Yep. My brother and I had them at the same time as our kitchen was being remodeled. Lots of pics of us in pajamas playing in the old cabinet when they were empty. I am sure it was awful for my mom. I also had shingles in high school.
My brother, sister and I all had them at the same time. It was the same week my Mom decided to file for divorce. I vividly remember being home sick when my Dad was served the papers. Rough week.

Yeah, agreed. I remember the entire neighborhood of kids came over when my sister got it, since they wanted us all to have it as kids and not risk it as adults, but that was in, like 1988 or something. Now, why would you put everyone through that???

My sister got them 9 years ago when she was ten and died from them. (it was her b-day yesterday)
She had the one vaccine.
It is a serious virus that should never be taken lightly.

@eva116 So sorry about your sister.
@lizabethann06 I have been around. Just over on parenting here and there.
The kids are great. How are you? I need to come back over here more.
