Any one else Cloth Diapering?

I've had my kids in cloth diapers for a while now with no problems. but for some reason, since becoming pregnant the smell of the diapers at changes and when rinsing them is making me sick... I've had to temporarily switch to spossies. But the only thing I like about them is the lack of smell, and I don't like that it is chemicals that cause that lack of smell. Any advice?

I feel your pain. I use cloth and have put DS in disposables for the time being because I can't handle spraying the poopy diapers with my MS right now. I plan to have him back in cloth as soon as the morning sickness subsides. Is it just the poop smell that bothers you or is it an ammonia smell?

We cloth diaper too, the pee smell does seem more bothersome at times, but I just smell peppermint first and wash more often.

It is both smells, for some reason their pee smell is so strong to me right now. I can smell it from another room with my husband changing the diaper... and it isn't a residual thing either. I've jumped my stripping routine to every wash instead of once a week.

We use luvs and unless they poop their is barely a smell at all. I might try the OxiClean though.

If you're worried about little ones tush while you have them in disposable until you can handle cleaning the cloth diapers again, just use one of the organic brands as they have far less chemicals in them. But really, your child in their lifetime will sit on worse, do worse and put worse in their bodies (no matter how hard you try to prevent it...kids are kids). Not being snarky, just trying to point out, that unless your child is having a reaction to the disposable diapers, they are likely fine and it's better for you for now to not have to add yet another 'I might ralph' moment to your day. When you feel better, you can go back to the cloth.

And no, I'll use disposable diapers for my baby.
1. There is no diaper service in my area (if their was, I'd use them)
2. The amount of money I'd 'save' in using reusable cloth diapers would likely be 'spent' on the new washing machine I'd need from doing the extra loads of wash. (Plus, we have city water so there we would likely see a small increase in our bill)
3. My husband wants no part of scraping poop out of anything....ever.

Yes! The scent has never bothered me before, but suddenly diaper laundry is much harder to do.
I started using liners in my dispers though and that has allowed me to discard the poo so I don't have to spray them and it seems to have drastically cut down on the odor.
I also recently started to spray all my pee diapers when I change lo to cut down on the scent. It seems to have made it possible to do walk by the wetbags in his room everyday without losing it.

We would like to use the cloth diapers, but I'm having a hard time finding good info about different brands and styles. Lucie's list has a tiny bit, Baby Bargains too. Does anyone have recommendations for better sources of info?

I did cloth for #1 and #2 and plan to for #3 as well. I was more grossed out by dealing with #1s poopy diapers when I was pregnant with #2, but I dealt with it and carried on. I had 2u2 in daycare in cloth and did all that work. Get a sprayer and a Spray Pal and it is so much easier.

We are. It's not my fav right now but I just get it done as fast as possible. I'm not complaining about diapers because I'm saving up for sympathy back rubs NOT followed by sex.

I didn't with my first but ds2 started reacting bad to disposable diapers so we switched to cloth (mostly pocket diapers) when he was about 4 months. I still do it part time but he's in disposables again with no reaction most of the time. I did notice that they were getting a bit if an ammonia smell. We also used the flushable liners for collecting poop which made it really easy. With this baby we plan to cloth diaper right from the beginning. We plan on using more prefolds and fitted diapers this time. I may need to make a trip down to the States to pick up some Green Mountain prefolds since they don't ship to Canada...

I did cloth with DD, but she potty trained already so I'm just waiting on LO to come out. I do agree though that the smell would really bother me. I have a hard time helping DD wipe without throwing up.

A lot of the online stores have great information. I usually go to Kelly's Closet. They also have a cloth diaper support group on FB, which is great for questions. The group on TB is good, but you'll get more info looking in other places.

If you are curious about prefolds and covers I highly suggest greenmountaindiapers.com they have tons of photos of stuff on real babies of all different sizes.

also pinstripes and polka dots is my go-to resource for CD laundry tips.

I learned a lot from the CD board here on the bump too.

There are so many and they all fit a little different.

first thing to decide is how involved do you want to be? prefolds and covers (prefolds are easy to wash and are cheaper), fitteds and covers are similar, pockets are nice b/c once you wash them and reassemble them they look and work like a disposable (caregivers like them b/c it is a no-brainer), all -in-ones are nice and easy too, but laundry can get trickier and drying time is longer.

also Velcro vs snaps. Velcro is nice an easy and you get a custom fit, snaps last longer but you don't get as custom of a fit and IME other caregivers preferred the Velcro.

as far as brands go, there are a ton. I like to keep it simple with greenmountaindiaper sized prefolds and thirsties covers, I have some kawaii pockets (kawaii is a cheaper pocket option).

There are all kinds of boutique brands with prices upwards of $20/diaper. I prefer to keep my pockets to $15 or less each.

There are used diaper sale sites too...I use diaperswappers.com also check out your local craigslist - I've seen a lot of CD dropouts selling almost new stuff for a great price.

I am in the same boat with the smell. It's the pee that gets me. Dd is potty trained during the day so the only time I have to deal with them is overnight and naps (which are dry most times.) So with that those overnight ammonia smelling diapers are horrible right now. I was actually just thinking today I would buy a pack of the Honest Co. sposies. They will last like a month and by then I should be better. I am so very thankful dd pted so early.

I loved and learned do much from the cloth diaper 101 videos on YouTube. It also really helped Dh understand what we were getting into.
I personally love my bum genius and blueberry diapers, but I am am AIO girl. There are tons of brand specific buy sell and trade groups online and they can also be a good source if beans specific info.

There is also a specialty board on TB where the girls are very helpful.
There also appear to be a lit of April 2015 CDing moms!
