Big Babies?

Anyone else's baby measuring large now? I'm 22weeks and we met with MFM today. My baby boy is coming in at a whopping 1.5lbs already and he's in the 92nd percentile. Kinda freaking me out....

Re: Big Babies?

  • Yep! I am just under 5 feet tall and my first baby was 9 pounds 7 ounces and a week late. My second was 8 pounds 14 ounces a week early. This one she said will probably be my biggest baby yet!! She said the legs were really long. I don't really trust the weight measurements they give you via ultrasound though.

  • Yes - My baby was also exactly 1.5 lbs and 92nd percentile at 22 weeks!

My first was 10 lbs. 11 oz and my doc seems to think this one will be bigger...!!!

  • My boys were 8lbs an 13oz an 8lbs 6oz before them my kids were 7lbs an under. This lil girl is measuring lil over week ahead and I'm measuring 5wks ahead. I'm in for another sumo sized baby. I'm only 5'2 and average body. These big babies aren't my style lol.
  • DD was 9lbs5oz born at 38w5d. I'm sure the twins won't top that, but they'll be nice healthy size. If I were carrying a singleton, she'd be a big one!

  • Is it shocking that both of my twins are measuring a week ahead (as of last visit three weeks ago)? Seems nuts for twins to be so far ahead!

  • My OB keeps saying "right on track" but I'm not thinking that eliminates at least an 8 lb baby. I'm not sure she knows any other words than "good, right on track, that's great".

  • Just had my 20 week scan and he's weighing in at 11 ounces. My dr said that's the average weight at this point. I hope you god I don't have an 8lb baby. That just seems so big to me!!
  • I was measuring right on track and baby girl is weighing 12 ounces which the tech said is very normal around this time. I have only lost weight in my pregnancy(I'm a thick lady, so it's ok) but I look like I'm 28 weeks with twins.. I'm super confused lol
  • DD#1 was 6 lbs even at 38w6d but DD#2 is already weighing in at approx 1 pound 1 ounces at 21.5 weeks. I was shocked!! I was really hoping to have another little bean... But these are just approximations, it is tough to really tell from an u/s and measurements can't be exact! :)

  • Yup. My boy was measuring in the 90th percentile at my 18 wk ultrasound :-)

  • I was 19 weeks and baby was 13 ounces, not sure if she'll be big or not first baby was 7lbs 3oz
  • I had my ultrasound this week and they said he is in the 75th percentile. This really freaked me out as I almost had a c-section with DD who was 7 pounds 3 ounces. Any bigger and I will be in c-section land. I have appointment with OB tomorrow, so I am going to ask about this.....

  • I was a big baby, and DH has a big head. Hoping for a genetics fail.
  • Our son weighed 14 oz at the 20 week A/S which is 80% percentile, my obgyn said it was too early to tell if it was indicative of a large birth weight. That made me happy, I'm only 5"2! I don't want to have to push out a huge baby!

  • My baby boy was measuring 8 days ahead at our a/s and above the 97th percentile so I'm afraid I'm having a big baby. He may be too big for newborn size clothes when he gets here
  • Ben was a bigger baby at 8.4lbs and is still a big kid. 29.6lbs and very tall at 18months. 97th percentile for weight, height and head

My first DS was 8lbs 10.5oz (was a week over due). We had our a/s a week ago today I was 21 weeks and baby was measuring 15oz. The tech said that was big & baby was measuring 3 days ahead. I go in on the 30th for my "24 week" check up (really I'll be 25 weeks) to discuss the possibility of a VBAC. Something tells me it won't be a option :/
  • I talked to my OB-GYB about it today, as I had my ultra sound done at the hospital with a perinatologist present, rather than my regular doctor. I explained to her that I was concerned over this "75 percentile" business and she told me not to worry. She said that it was "normal" at this point, but too early to tell if the baby is going to be a big baby. She said that it could be that baby slows down on growth. She said that worst case scenario, baby would be in high 7s or low 8s. She said that we would keep an eye on it due to the fact that I struggled with DD at albs 3oz, but at this point, not to worry. Hope this helps!

  • I'm at 20 weeks and baby is measuring at 82nd percentile. I focusing on the positive. At least their heathy. What's weird is that my bump is impossibly small. The lady that checked me in to my u/s appointment thought I was in the wrong place.
