Trouble TTC a Sibling

Did you know the Dr. that delivered your kids?

So I heard a rumor today that the Dr. that delivered my DS and I'm now seeing for fertility treatments (NaPro) is going to stop delivering babies because the hospital in town closed their maternity ward.  For some reason I'm really having some anxiety about this.  This whole experience is so frustrating and disheartening and I feel like this is just another hit :(  So I guess then once I get PG (if I say it like it'll happen, it will right?), do I just switch to a different OB?  Do I continue to see her and just let some random Dr. deliver?  I don't know why I'm worried about this now seeing as how I'm not even PG, but it's just weighing on my chest.

TFAS since May 2013
8/14 - Bloodwork showed heterozygous MTHFR gene mutation and elevated AMH (but no cysts)
9/14 - HSG, Hysteroscopy and laparoscopy showed tubes clear, but found and removed Endometriosis, scar tissue and 2 small benign masses on my tubes.
11/14 - Daily ultrasounds confirmed that my follicles are not releasing the egg and every other day blood draws showed very low progesterone... DH's SA was near perfect
12/14 - moving onto meds!!! Hold up!!!  Surprise BFP after only taking the progesterone!  Now what do I do with all of the other meds we already paid for?!  Due at the end of August 2015 Beta#1- 4434 @ 22DPO  Beta#2 - 7335 @ 25DPO Beta #3 - 14429  @ 28DPO

Re: Did you know the Dr. that delivered your kids?

  • DD didn't give the Dr time to get in the room. My poor nurse had to make kind of a baseball dive catch to catch DD in time.

Yep, he was the OB I saw for my whole pregnancy. The day my water broke I spent all day with him, pushed for a while with him, then he assisted in my c section.

  • Never met the Doctor who delivered DD.  I think she had red hair?  Haha, that shows how much I was paying attention to who was catching her.

  • Yes, my dr. was there and there was another dr. assisting.  I ended up liking the assisting dr. better.  Most of the post delivery visits while I was in the hospital were with a different doctor, whoever was on rounds.

That's a tough call, if you thought you could find a new dr. that you'd like just as much that could do the delivery it might be worth making the move, but if you're attached to your current dr. then maybe not. I guess since it's never a sure thing if a dr. will actually be doing the delivery, I tend think it's probably best to have a dr. that you like and are comfortable with for the appointments.

  • I'm sure you will find an OB that you connect with, you'll have 9 months to find one :-D

I couldn't even tell you the name of the doctors who delivered Baby Boots but then I had a C so I only saw them for like 45 minutes. I saw a midwife my whole pregnancy and she was great but I knew I would be a scheduled C and I would have some random OB from the practice or the hospital and that was fine.

  • I'm sorry, that sounds like it could be stressful. Nope didn't know my doctor. The family practice I go to rotates so it's whoever is on call. There is a "Meet the Doctor" night which we attended....but the doctor wasn't there that night. Honestly in the middle of labour, I didn't care....and there were complications so my care got transferred anyhow.

    DS #1: April 2010
DS #2: July 2015 (preemie born at 31 weeks) - our little miracle conceived through ART - unexplained secondary infertility/adenomyosis
  • I feel like maybe I was "spoiled" when I had DS since she's a single Dr. practice so I had really gotten to know her. :)  I know I'll be having a c-section again, so I think that is partly why I'm feeling unsettled about her not delivering this hypothetical child ;)  I feel like it's more than just catching the baby, it's cutting me open and mushing around in my guts! Haha... I guess I just need another thing to worry about ;)

  • I met the Dr. who delivered Hailey 2 months prior.  I had been seeing a lovely OB and awesome Perinatalogist when we were stationed in Fort Worth.  My husband found out in October that they were not allowing any re-enlistments for his rate and several others (mass reduction in force... aka BS).  I moved home with my parents right away and he began terminal leave 4 days prior to Hailey's birth.  Honestly, it wasn't a big deal.  She came in, delivered and was gone shortly after.  I remember seeing the nurses a LOT more!  GL.
