Sadie for girls name

Right now Dh and I love sadie and georgia. We love both equally, but everything I have read online says sadie is a popular dogs name. We love Luella or Lynne (family names) for middle names. Does sadie Luella or sadie lynne sound too much like a dogs name?

Re: Sadie for girls name

  • My dog's name is Sadie. I like it better as a nn for Sarah or Seraphina on a child.
Started adoption process in Jan. 2011.
    3 failed matches in 2012.
    Surprise pregnancy in Aug. 2012.
Precious baby boy "HC" born May 2013.
    Began researching EA in 2014.
No longer pursuing EA due to fibroid complications.
Officially on the adoption home study wait list.

  • I like Sadie fine, but I have heard people say the dog name thing before.

I like Georgia a lot more!

  • My grandmother was a Sarah, but called Sadie within the family. I like Sadie very much, but it is strictly a nn to me -- a little too cutesy for a grownup formal name.

  • Sadie Luella...  Ekk, that is bad.  Sadie Lynne is acceptable.  Georgia Lynne sounds too something (I just can't put my finger on it).  Georgia Luella is also bad.

    Lynne Sadie is good though.
  • My cousin's has a daughter named Sadie, and it fits her really well.

  • I don't like Sadie. It reminds me of horses(I guess bc it sounds like saddle?). I think Sadie with those middle names sound really southern and that's just not my style.
  • Sadie is my dog's name & Georgia is my cat 's name... Lol. I guess we have similar taste in names. Luella is also a family name. It would be beautiful as a mn.
  • Personally, I love Sadie, but I'm a bit bias as my name is Sarah, and I was named after my great-grandmother, Sadie (not a nickname). DH and I are considering using it (for a first or middle name) if our little one is a girl, even though I know three people who've recently named their daughters Sadie. And, while I know someone with a dog named Sadie, I do not think of it as a pet's name.

Also, I should add that I think both Luella or Lynne would be lovely as a middle name for Sadie, though I gravitate towards Luella a bit more for its uniqueness.
  • I like Sadie, it's my DD's middle name. DH wanted it as a first name but because of the dog association I couldn't agree with that. Still a beautiful name. Love Georgia too (I wished DH liked it as much as me).

  • Sadie is definitely a dog name. Oprah had a Sadie.

I wouldn't use it as a standalone name for a daughter. In addition to Sarah, it is also a NN for Mercedes.

  • I love Sadie as a NN. I second others suggestions to find a name that you like to use that as a NN.

I think Georgia is a great FN or MN

  • I do like Sadie, I think it's a sweet name. I think of it in the same vein as Lucy which I've also heard is a popular pet name. Regardless, I like them both.

  • Luella is my favorite on your list.

Georgia > Sadie but both are NMS.
  • Sadie isn't my favorite, but it's been really growing on me because a friend of mine has a gorgeous little Sadie.
  • I also had a dog named Sadie growing up. I like the name, but more as a nickname for Sarah.

    Sarah Lynne nn Sadie.

  • I don't think of Sadie as being juvenile, but I thinking is nice to have a more forml name to go by if that is what she would choose.

I have a dog named Sadie and I run into dogs with the same name all the time. In fact our neighbor also happens to have a dog with the same name. I don't mind it on a person though.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • Dog name was the first thing that popped into my head too -- my ILs had a dog named Sadie. Georgia is just okay to me, but Georgia Lynne sounds like an old country singer name or something.
  • I really don't like Sadie, and it has always reminded me of a dog name. I love Georgia very very much and Georgia Luella is a huge yes! Love it.
  • Someone could name their dog anything.

I don't think it sounds very professional.
  • I have known 3 dogs named Sadie.  IRL I have known one Sadie and it was a NN for Mercedes.  I don't care for this name at all.

    I much prefer Georgia.
  • Sadie just sounds like a nickname to me (and not a terribly pretty one). Georgia and Luella are both lovely!

  • I know a dog named Sadie, but I also know dogs named Roxanne, Max, Charlie, Oliver, George and countless other names.

Unless you're naming your child "Fido," "Spot," or "Fluffy."  I don't think you should worry about the fact other people use the name for a dog.

  • I've never liked this name and always think of a dog or an older woman.
  • My friend has a daughter named Sadie and it is really cute and fits her well. My DH's dog growing up was named Sadie but he still thinks it is a cute girl name. We have a popular New Mexican restaurant here named Sadie's, so it kinda makes me hungry!
