Hey all, I am close to 6 months pregnant with our first daughter (we have 4 boys already), and we cannot choose a name! We have 3 sort of picked out, which do you think is best, or do you have any suggestions? TIA!
If it was my first girl after so many boys I would pick the most feminine name I could think of. Elizabeth is the only real girl name I see :-/ but if I had to choose from those three I'd go with Harper.
So my husband wants to use Ashton, which is my middle name...I dont really like any girly names, which is why it's so hard..I really like Elisabeth, but I dont know how I feel about it being a first name - I dont like Liz or Beth as nicknames. We have also thrown around Lillian Ashton, but I dont know how I feel about Lily for a nickname. I know Im being difficult but since it is the only girl, I want to be extra cautious!
Definitely Lillian! Go with that for sure. She doesn't have to have a nickname. We have a Lilith in my class and she does NOT go by Lily. Her mom made that clear to us the first day and never have we ever called her Lily.

I love Ashton! I wanted it if we have a girl but since I'm completely in love with Ashton kutcher my fiancé said no haha. i don't see the big deal about boy names for girls. I love them. My top names so far are ronnie or Parker for a girl. (My dads name is Ronald so that's where I got ronnie) also, i have a boys name (Keegan) and have been complimented on it my whole life.

If you do not like nn, don't use them. They are not necessary and, contrary to popular belief here, they are NOT inevitable. My sister is an Elizabeth who had never allowed anyone to call her anything else in her life. She didn't like nns and chose to never have one and never did. The only person to sort of get away with it was a teacher's husband who called ME Beth because he could annoy us both at the same time (me by calling me my sisters name and her because it was a nn she despised)... He was an odd man. ;-)
Bottom line, some parents actually name their children what they intend to call them. If you like Elisabeth (I prefer Elizabeth, but to each their own) or Lillian (beautiful name), then go for it and don't worry about choosing a nn! :-)

I like Ashton best out of those. Clearly no one else does but I don't think it sounds so bad. Not something id ever pick but it is clearly your style. I absolutely loathe Charlie for a girl and Harper sucks too.
DD is Charlie, and I know how the board feels about it but I've gotten a lot of compliments on it and she's named after my husband's grandfather who passed away.
Before reading your text I just looked at the names. I saw Harper and thought, oh wow someone is using it for a boy (which I much prefer). Then I saw Elisabeth and I was confused for a second and wondered why you were giving a girly middle name to a boy. I guess it's needless to say I prefer Elisabeth from the names you listed.
I personally like Ashton, but for a girl I would probably spell it differently to make it a bit more feminine. I actually work with a girl who spells her name Ashtyn and I think that helps people realize she is a girl not a guy. So if you choose Ashton, maybe spell it slightly differently.
I like the idea of Charlotte nn Charlie. I think Charlie for a girl is sweet, but that's a matter of personal preference I know. My parents nearly named me Stevie and I am disappointed that they didn't! Perhaps I would have felt differently had I grown up with it.
I really enjoy Harper for a girl as well, but I am not crazy about Ashton as a first name.
ETA: HA! I just went into my running baby name list to add one, and I had Ashton on my girl's list. Funny to see how my taste changes with time.
While I appreciate the importance of giving a daughter a serious, non cutesy name that doesn't mean you have to give them a boy name instead. There are plenty of lovely non frilly girl names out there. You can use Elizabeth w/o a NN.
Since Ashton is your MN I think it would be very sweet to use it as a MN for your daughter too. It doesn't read as feminine though so I wouldn't put it in the FN spot.
People tend to really dislike the more boyish names for girls on this board, but remember you're the one that has to love it. AND they will always recommend Genevieve and Lily (of which I know 4 and 5 babies respectively). I love your names and think my favorite is Harper, but I actually love all of them.
Harper and Lily are sooo popular. I would choose Elisabeth (though I prefer it with a z) and call her by her full name or what about Eliza? Charlie is so popular for boys as are Charlotte/Charlie for girls. So of your three names listed I would go with Ashton. But the popularity of Ashton Kutcher ruins it for me.
I think Harper is nice. Agree if you really like Charlie or Ashton use one of those as a MN not as a FN. Eh I'm not a big fan of a Elisabeth. Its pretty just NMS. I love the idea of Eliza or Charlotte. Good luck!
Although it's a pretty popular name, love PP suggestion of naming her Charlotte with the NN Charlie. Very cute. I don't totally mind Ashton though much prefer it as a middle, esp since it is your middle. Think Charlotte Ashton and Elizabeth Ashton are both really cute. Harper is NMS but not terrible.

Ashton is terrible on a boy. It's even worse on a girl.
