Random: Toothbrushes

Ok, are we the only ones that go through toothbrushes like candy?  I will admit upfront that I am a germaphobe, and even if I just cleaned the sink, it skeeves me out if they drop it in there.  Last night, my four year old said his touched the toilet!  (He is just starting to get some toothbrush independence.)  But his older brother will leave his lying around anywhere.  I moved them into our bathroom and got cases for them.  Still a money sucker.  
I have heard that you can throw them in the dishwasher, but that kinda skeeves me out too.  (Too much use of the word skeeve?)  Anyway, has anyone done this or used another method?  This will be our third new toothbrush in a week, and my husband is sick, so he wants a new one too.  AGHHHHHHHH!  I am tired of buying toothbrushes.  Do I just get over it?  I am sure they put things in their mouth all the time worse than a toothbrush that hit the floor or the sink, but it grosses me out to know it.

    DH tells me that I "brush my teeth so aggressively." I probably get a new head for my brush every month. DH and DD get new toothbrushes every other month.

    I caught DD brushing the cat the other day...with her toothbrush.

    SICK!

    We replace every few months or so or if DD does something gross like, brush the cat. She puts her toothbrush in the sink when she's done brushing her teeth.

    My DH claims that I'm overly clean, but I have to admit that it wouldn't bother me at all if the toothbrush hit the sink. (Unless someone sick had used the restroom and I hadn't cleaned it yet. Then it might.) I mean, I clean the sink with disinfectant pretty regularly, so it should be reasonably sanitary. If it hit the toilet I'd be grossed out and would wash it well with soap and water and then let the head soak in a cup with some Listerene, but I probably wouldn't replace it.

    I am one that throws them into the dishwasher about once a week and replaces them every 4 month or so. I kind of think that the dishwasher sanitizes them more than just rinsing off after brushing. Dropping them into the sink wouldn't bother me, but touching the toilet or (as a pp said) brushing the cat would warrant a new toothbrush in this house.

    I boil ds and change it every 2 months, me and dh use philips clerasonic and we have desinfection light for brush head that we got with it. So I disinfect them and still change heads every couple months.

    We change toothbrushes every two to three months. Dd is probably more like 4-6 weeks. We buy her a pack of four for $3 give or take. I don't mind replacing it that price.
