Ug. I love my mom...

But she sure makes it hard!

She planned this whole exciting day on Saturday, treating me and the kids to a day trip. Now she wants to take my van. And pick up another friend.

Okay, fine. My van technically seats 7. But I have two rear facing car seats in the middle. Only kids can crawl under them. When I pointed this out, she wants me to move E into the back bench. Gah. Because EVERYONE can reach and buckle a wiggly, non helpful toddler from the middle of a van when the seat is in the back.

So. How does one install a car seat on a seat without latch holds, when the shoulder strap doesn't lock? I know it can be done, I just don't know how. I just always insist on putting the kids in latch seats. I've never found any buttons or locks on my seatbelts.

  • You run the seat belt through the opening in the back and make it as tight as possible. Pull the belt out as far as it goes so it clicks and then pull it until the belt is as tight as it will go. I hope that helps! Have a fun day out!

  • My car seat came with a lock off clip. It is a metal thing that you use to hold the shoulder strap to the waist strap when the seat belt doesn't lock. Also can you load E from the back hatch? That's what I do when I put kids in the 3rd row of my car. It's way easier than trying to get myself back there.
  • @JRomeH - thanks so much for posting about the 40 lb limit, I had no idea!  DS1 is almost 50 lbs and still sits in a carseat using LATCH in my mom's car!  Gah!

I checked my car's manual and it doesn't list a weight limit for the latch. I know for my car SEAT it has a 40lb rf limit on the latch buckle, but it's 65 lbs on the ff latch buckle.
