Gender blood test

Someone I know from my hometown is also PG and due early April. She went to the doctor at 9-10 weeks and posted on Facebook that her doctor took some blood and performed a test and that would tell them the babies gender. Anyone heard of this? She just posted on FB this week that she's having a boy! Crazy medical technology these days!!!!

    I had the Harmony Test done at 10 weeks. My insurance didn't cover it, so the test was $250 out of pocket. I had the option to pay $10 extra to find out the sex. We ultimately decided not to find out, which I'm kinda kicking myself for now.

    Actually, the test isn't called Harmony.  Harmony is just one of the providers of the test.  Others include (and may not be limited to) Panorama, Verifi and MateriT21, and if you talk with your doctor they may prefer one to the another.  My doctor goes with MateriT21, saying he feels it is most accurate.  Just FYI.

    I had it done. Like the others have said its for chromosomal abnormalities . I had the materniT21 because I have a brother with T21. They do give you the option of finding out sex, which I did.

    There is also a blood test now that is used to determine baby's blood type (if the mom is Rh- & might need the Rhogam shots). You can also find out baby's sex from this test.
