Group B strep infection and induction

I am 38 weeks, 4 days and tested positive for group b strep a couple weeks ago. Last week I complained of constant cramping and they discovered I have gotten a UTI from the group b strep. I've been on amoxicillin since yesterday, but am still in terrible pain. Now I can't tell what's from Braxton Hicks vs. what's from the UTI. This is my second baby and I'm worried I'll labor too quickly to give the baby the full course of drugs. My doctor mentioned that I could elect for induction at 39 weeks if I'm still "uncomfortable," but didn't really connect this with the group be strep infection. I'm wondering if I should stick it out until I naturally go into labor (which I'd like to do of course) or be induced at 39 weeks to ease my pain. I'm also wondering what either of these options mean for the better health of the baby. Help and advice please!

  • No. Let the baby come when it's ready.

  • This happened to me in my first pregnancy and now in my second. The first I was just treated with an antibiotic for a UTI and then given an antibiotic when I went into labor to avoid the baby contracting Step B. This pregnancy was a little worse and the UTI was more painful. My antibiotics took about a week to kick in. I would highly recommend waiting for labor to naturally take its course; the last few weeks of your pregnancy are going to be uncomfortable with our without a UTI, so why not let your LO cook until he/she is ready to come?
