CIO and vacation questions?

We will be heading to San Diego on Friday for over a week and I can't wait. It's our first vacation in over 3 years.

We do CIO and DS will cry for no more than 5 minutes and he's out at home. We did a weekend trip with DS and he ended up in bed with us because it was one room be could see us standing in his PNP and screamed the whole time. This time we have a suite and it has a room off to the side so hoping if we put him down he will go to sleep. I also worry that others will hear him crying and wonder what we are doing to him. Anyone have any tricks or things that have worked?

I have another question too - we will be in theme parks/zoo do you bring your own stroller and if so do you worry about someone taking it?

We have the same problem with DS. If he can see us then the night is horrible. Having a suite works though. The last time we didn't have a suite, we put his crib the bathroom. I would still let him CIO but only 5-10min max.

We bring our cheaper stroller on vacation mainly in case it gets broken on the airplane but I don't really worry about it getting stolen.

  • I don't have any suggestions for CIO on vacay but I've had my stroller stolen before at Disneyland! With that being said, we still bring our own stroller but don't leave anything on it, not even a diaper bag or blanket. It all goes with us in a backpack. It's the stuff left on it their really after, not the stroller. Have fun!

  • Yay, vacations suck with sleeping I find. I find we tended to keep her up later just by the activities we were doing. Half the time she'd fall asleep in the carseat on the way home and we'd just transfer her. But we found that CIO didn't work very well away from home, at least for us. Hannah seems to really like her routine, and part of her routine is being at home in her bed. Silly girl.

I hope you don't any issues, good luck!

  • We haven't been on vacation since we CIO'd so I'm curious how it will work as well. We do take our stroller with us to Disney and zoos and such and have never had anything bothered on it. We do make sure to take our camera with us instead of leaving it on the stroller.
    Have fun!!!!

  • Thanks ladies for your help. I think I will have to wing the CIO method and see how it goes.

@Cwhitaker27‌ - I'm sorry someone took your stroller - unbelievable! DH bought a bike lock not sure how helpful it will be. We have a bugaboo chameleon 3 that was really expensive and MH loves the stroller but I'm concerned someone will walk off with it too. I like the back pack idea - I think we will give that a try.

  • @LauraBeth1401‌ - We are traveling by car too. The ladies that fly are brave and I couldn't figure out how logistically an airplane ride would work for us now - DS is very impatient and I can barely get him to sit through dinner in a high chair - let alone a plane ride. I also wanted to be able to pack whatever we needed without restrictions. I'll let you know how the CIO goes :)

  • @Mayzie15‌ -- we went to San Diego with our LO in September. B was 10 mo. She was in a though sleeping period leading up to the trip so we were worried.

Ultimately, our daytime activities had her so exhausted that she slept like a champ. She generally went right down in the crib (with us in full sight).

My suggestion...tire your little bug out!

As for the stroller, we brought ours. It's the mountain buggy nano which folds up super small and is light weight. When we couldn't bring it into an attraction, we left it in the stroller parking area (empty) and no one bothered it.

I'm also a huge fan of baby wearing, so I did that a lot. The stroller was always there as backup.

    Have a great trip!
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.
  • @Mayzie15‌ your DH may be into something! When our stroller got stolen security recommended next time we use a bike lock and just lock the stroller to itself (wheel to wheel). It would be hard and look awfully weird to see someone carrying away a stroller. So I think it's a great idea. Security told us lots of strollers get stolen there everyday! I couldn't believe it since so many people park their strollers with all of their belongings on them and they seem to go unbothered......or so I thought!
