Cleaning the washer

So, I have tried running a cycle with bleach, one with vinegar, scrubbed all the folds in the liner, as my google searches suggest (it's a front loader) and it still smells like butthole. My clothes don't smell like freshly washed clothes, I take them out as soon as the buzzer goes off, so I know they aren't sitting to long. Do you ladies have any other suggestions as to how to clean out this sucker???

Re: Cleaning the washer

  • No suggestions but my parents and my in laws had this same issue. It's mildew / mold smell. My in laws got rid of their front loader bc of the smell.

  • Ours is the same! It's the first front loader I've had and the smell is awful. Thankfully our clothes smell clean still, they haven't taken over the stench of the washer but no amount of cleaning, sanitizing or airing out has helped. I doubt we will purchase another front loader! If you find something that works, OP, let us know!

  • Do you leave the door open when you are not washing?

That seems to help reduce the mildewy smells imo...

@abc829 It's a military issued washer, I couldn't bring mine with me, otherwise I would have chunked the damn thing out the door already. It smells like mold/mildew too, probably from the mass amounts of people who have used it and probably neglected it.

@apperdoodles sometimes I leave it open but most the time I close it because it smells that bad.

    Edit: spelling is hard

  • I'm all for natural cleaning solutions but occasionally you need some hardcore toxins to get back to square one. Try a washer cleaner like Afresh or the Tide one. It does the trick.

  • I always leave the door open after a wash to let it air dry before I close the door. I never had an odor issue. I second the use of the Tide washer cleaner.

I'll be trying the other tips on the link from @souptin‌ , and the tide washer cleaner, FX that I can actually get it here. Otherwise, I'll have to check Amazon for it. Hopefully that fixes the problem, I hate calling maintenance here, seeing as I don't speak Japanese.

    Thanks Ladies!
