Diaper Allergy

Hey everyone.  I used to post here a lot, but while I was on maternity leave I didn't come here much.  Now that I'm back at work, I'm back into this board.  Anyways...

Has anyone else had an issue with a diaper allergy?  We use disposables, and hadn't a problem until the last week.  I thought it was just regular diaper rash, but none of the creams (triple paste, desitin, etc) seem to help that much.  And I noticed it's showing up on her legs as well as her bottom/genitals.  Every day she comes home from daycare and I change her and she just screams bloody murder.  At daycare she's using Pampers swaddlers.  She had been using those just fine, but now I'm seeing this issue I don't know what to do.

Could it be a diaper allergy? Latex allergy? They use rubber gloves at daycare...

Re: Diaper Allergy

  • Could also be yeast. I might try an OTC antiyeast cream too.

  • Triple paste makes an anti fungal cream. I bought some online because I couldn't find it at any of our drugstores. It could be heat. Is yet hot where you live?
  • Definitely could be the gloves allergy, too. Does it get better at all over the weekend? And it could be to the diapers too. My DD1 was allergic to disposable diapers. Similarly, I'm allergic to the poly fill in most sanitary napkins. They're expensive, but look for an organic or "unbleached" diaper. It could be the stay dry absorbent stuff.

  • @mwsolis  it's not been hot, not really..

@tamarar5  It does improve over the weekend.

I did some research and a lot of people are saying the Baby Dry Pampers could be causing rashes.  I've been using those at home, so I'm going to try eliminating those and seeing if it helps.  If not, I'll go to the pediatrician and see if she can help narrow it down.

    Thanks everyone!

  • @allygirl520‌ ask if the daycare is using latex free gloves, what brand diapers they are using, and what brand wipes. If it's getting better at home over the weekend, then it's something at daycare.

My DD1 head a lot of skin sensitivities. I would provide diapers and wipes for the day care and they refused to use them, instead using their diapers (which caused bleeding rashes on her) and then charging me for them.

So our could be their diapers, or the brand or texture of wipes, that the daycare is using. I would point blank tell daycare that you ate trying to figure out the cause. Also ask if they are changing on a clock, or changing when Io is wet/poopy. A daycare here was just fine big bucks for changing on a 2 hour schedule — meaning many babies were sitting in dirty diapers for lengths of time.

  • I want to second trying the anti-fungal cream for yeast. My DD had a horrendous month-long raw rash and I spent close to $100 on all diaper creams available. I even ordered some from Europe! Any who I used an anti-fungal at each diaper change for probably 3 weeks along with triple paste, cotton balls and water instead of wipes and pampers sensitive diapers. Hers FINALLY went away. I would hope the daycare has enough sense to use latex free gloves since latex allergies are so common! But definitely ask about that while you're at it. Give her some bare booty time over the weekend to let it air out too. Poor baby! I know what you're going through mama.

I air dry after each wipe with a hair dryer also. I just plugged a mini dryer next to the changing table. That has helped too not to mention DD loves it!!! I use it to warm up hands and feet to if she gets cold.
  • The diapers and wipes are provided by me, so I know she's using the same brand we use at home.
@elbug what you said about diaper cream after every changing is making sense.  They have a policy where you have to be very specific about when to apply creams/medications.  They use the cream after every diaper change. I may have them switch to every other, or just with #2's.

I'm definitely letting her air out more, now, and hoping that helps. And I will certainly be asking about the latex-free gloves.

  • Also check that they are sure to be using your wipes. I worked at a place that parents brought in wipes but we were told to use one open container at a time. Therefore there was a mix of brands/fragrances. I'm not saying it was right, just saying it happens.
