Re: Critique My Newborn Stash

  • That's not way over bought.  I count 40 changes, right?  We recommend 36 for newborns.  I know you said that doesn't include accessories, but make sure you have several snappis, several wetbags, cd safe diaper cream, and cd safe detergent.  If the AIOs don't fit right away, you could always grab a bag of FSTs from wal mart (5/$5) to help fill in until the AIOs fit.

    beta #2 11/28 = 2055

Thanks! Yes, 40 changes, so I didn't over buy that much. I guess I was worried that if someone thought I should change something drastically I would have to buy even more. I was thinking about getting a few FSTs since I hear such good things about them on here and they are so cheap; so I will do that.

I registered for my OS stash and my accessories so I will definitely buy my snappis, wet bags, CD detergent and creams if I don't get any. Now I'm just trying to decide between hanging wet bags or an Ubbi diaper pail.....

  • Get a cheap open top trash can for a pail. Open is best. No need for anything fancy. I have a pail and a hanging wet bag so I have one in the nursery snd one downstairs for the day.

  • Cloth diapers like to breathe.  If you put them in a sealed pail you will have all sorts of stink problems.  I would suggest an unzipped hanging wet bag.  Or a trash can (no lid) with a pail liner.
  • Thanks for the ideas @brandiewine11 and @abby8279 - I thought the Ubbi would be okay since you can get it with a CD liner. But a trash can is much cheaper so I'll go with that. If I'm EOD washing, will the nursery stink with the pail open?

Exactly what Maple said.  When everyone was saying their pails didn't stink I was like "yeah right".  Because mine stunk!  I also justified that it stunk by the fact that I was pregnant again and thought maybe I had a super sense of smell.  Well they continued to get worse and worse.  I realized I had to work on my wash routine.  Now that the routine is perfected, my pail does not smell.  Also our hanging wet/dry bag doesn't stink and we travel w/ the all the time.

ETA: Our pail is in a small bathroom w/out any windows.  Even when I sit down to go pee I don't smell it and it's right there.
  • Awesome, good to know! Thanks ladies, I will definitely heed your open pail advice:)
