2t and 3t discussion (10/06)

Hey all. So this is the second posting of the 2t and 3t check-in and since first trimester check-in is smaller and this post has a different format I will try my hand running both. Feel free to ask anything or to answer anything that anyone has ask -- it's a free-for-all of knowledge and education! If you have a question that you would prefer not to have associated with your SN, please feel free to pm me and I will post it, as I have no shame. If you have suggestions for this post, let me know. Thank you to @classicstar28 for starting this thread! Ask away!

Pregnancy Ticker

Re: 2t and 3t discussion (10/06)

  • I'm still here, waiting.  I have a couple of questions this week.

    1. Lightning crotch.  How do you deal with it?  The past couple of days I've had it so bad I literally could not walk.  Just horrible, horrible pain shooting every which way and into my legs.

    2. If you went into labor naturally, was there anything you did that you think actually helped get it going?  My doctor suggested walking and sex.  Anything else that helped you?

I ended up having to be induced with Finn, ending in a c-section..ugh.. But, leading up to that my husband and I tried that sex thing to get things going.. Oh My Gaawwwwd it was ridiculous.
A woman in the September 2013 group referred to it as "whale wars" - which is a perfect way to describe it.
I mean, if you and your husband are cool with this I say go for it.. LOL but here, we are already calling the act "whale wars" this time and I'm only 23 weeks!
Good grief sex is just not sexy at 40 weeks *blushes*

I did try walking - a lot.. also ridiculous. I was SO BIG ..add that lightning crotch (and for me pubic bone pain) and I waddled like a weeble wobble.

Hmm. Hopefully you find something that works. I always recommend acupuncture. It has magical powers.

    :)

  • @RN536‌ - hahaha, I thought the same thing about 2t/3t.

@classicstar28‌ - I don't have any advice about lightening crouch. I usually just wait it out, but it is awful! As for labor, I did a lot of walking the week before DS was born. I was way to uncomfortable for sex! LOL. I had prodromal labor for 5 days before he was born. I have no idea if the walking helped, but it did ease some of the labor pains.

My labor was pretty quick. I had an appointment at 10 am and was told to go to L&D because I was 4 cm. By the time we went home to get my bag and made it to the hospital I was 9 cm. They then broke my water, I pushed for less that 30 minutes, and DS was born.

  • @dragonfly1809‌ whale wars =)) I love it! So far the only comfy sex positions I've found are:

    1. me on my back, hips elevated, dh stands at the end of the bed and holds my legs at about waist height.

    2. On our couch, dh flat, me on top with one leg touching the ground.

Neither position is really amazing for me as I don't usually O, but I do it more for dh's sanity. Damnit pregnancy sex, it's supposed to be our free unprotected time! Being cleared for sex after birth scares me, it might be because I'm not sold on any type of birth control at this time.

  • @classicstar28

I had an emergency c-section at 36w5d with my son. I never went into labor and I am almost positive that I never had BH, either. So, I am really no help here :(. I was just reading a thread on an attachment parenting FB group that I belong to about acupuncture to induce labor. Every woman who had acupuncture and went into labor but it eventually stalled. Each of them needed to have her water broken at the hospital. This is completely anecdotal, but it may be something to research yourself.

@dragonfly1809 I can't stop laughing at whale wars. That is so funny and sadly, accurate. Re-reading your post, I just saw that you recommended acupuncture. I didn't mean to usurp your post, I was just reading about this yesterday.

  • @dragonfly1809 Whale wars is pretty funny.  We don't call it anything, but I'm so much bigger than him now I worry about crushing him.  It's like an elephant trying to have sex with a zebra.  It's pretty laughable.

We can only have sex with him sitting on the couch or the bed and me on top.  Giant belly right between us.  He is completely freaked out because this little person moves around a lot.
    TMI warning:
Yesterday, he thought he felt something tapping him inside.  I was like, "No no, honey.  That can't happen."  I'm not sure that's true, but otherwise he won't touch me until she's out.

  • @momtobe85 Absolutely.  Sometimes she moves around and it is so uncomfortable and painful.  I like the reassurance and when she is just rolling about it's super cool, but seriously I end up pleading with her to take a nap when she goes nuts.  Happened yesterday while I was driving home from the doctor.  I almost started to cry because she was pushing and kicking so hard plus I had to pee really bad.  Worst 10 minute drive ever.  People say you can get them to stop by walking or changing positions, but this child doesn't seem to care when she's dancing around in there.  Ugh.  One more reason I would like to be done now.

  • @Momtobe85 I've had uncomfortable movement for a few weeks now.  I love feeling the movement and it's so reassuring so I hate to complain, but sometimes they just downright hurt!  Sometimes it's the kicks toward the top of the stomach, sometimes it's the lower internal kicks around my intestines and cervix that are painful.

Also, whale wars is a great description!  We kinda just gave up several weeks ago.

I have a question about weird chest discomfort.  It's not pain and I don't think I'm having trouble breathing, which I know can be normal.  But it almost feels like I'm recovering from a cough or have a chest cold or allergies or something.  If I try to take a deep breath I can, it's just this weird tight feeling.  Is that just because baby is still pressing against diaphragm and lungs?

  • @shaddox16 Honestly, until last night we hadn't had sex since our babymoon which was 30 weeks I think.  We've talked about it a few times, but he would look at me and go "how?"  We stopped having sex pretty much once I got pregnant.  Either because of me being worried, morning sickness, or discomfort.  The sad part is that once I started to actually like it again, I was so big that it was completely awkward.  I am pretty sure we would have gone until I was ready again after giving birth if the doctor hadn't suggested it.  I think it's actually kind of funny in a sad way that we had so much sex to get here and now it's infrequent and often weird.  Oh well.  Worth it.

  • @momtobe85 - yes on the uncomfortable and sometimes painful baby movements. The most painful to me are what I think of as screwdrivers where she seems to be trying to burrow right out of my side, or when she is jabbing me up high in the sternum. So different from the little bubbles a couple of months ago!

As for pregnant sex, we have really been striking out. I'm just uncomfortable - both physically awkward and just really self-conscious and way too aware of baby. So there's been almost no intercourse in our house - but we fit in some fooling around. It's like we're in high school or something!

  • The pregnant sex is just not happening for us.  I would like to; MH is not really interested.  I think he's settled into a solo routine... I am trying to talk him out of it for my sake.  He tried once this week, but after an evening where I was very stressed out from work and he had been annoying me (and I had voiced it).  I couldn't help but say to him, of all days to try to initiate, you picked this one?  I think he did it on purpose knowing I would say no.

    AFM ...

Found out I failed my one-hour glucose test yesterday.  Going back in tomorrow for the three-hour.  I'm confident there's nothing I can really do to help me pass except follow the fasting requirements.  But, do any of you have any ideas/tips on how to get through the long afternoon?  And how to ensure I don't get sick from it?  I have no time to repeat the test so I will take any tips I can get to prevent vomiting!!

@ToriGirl2014‌ are they having you do the 3 hr test in am. I couldn't complete 3 hr BC of morning sickness but I couldn't image doing in afternoon. Also I did the 1 hr in evening and a lot of ppl say doing it then results in failing it. So good luck with 3 hr one.

@meagpt22 - The earliest they could schedule me was mid-morning for the three hour test.  Luckily morning sickness isn't an issue for me anymore.  There was no way I could do it in the afternoon since my OB requires me to completely fast from all food and drink (except an occasional sip of water).

I took the one-hour test in the morning, so that's not the reason I failed it, though I wish it was!

  • @mmheartspb - my OB had me fast from midnight until the time of the test. I don't think most OBs require that level of fasting for the one-hour.

I have heard of women failing the one-hour test because they stop to get a latte or a donut on the way to the test ... that's something I would definitely avoid so you don't spike your blood sugar before you even drink the glucose. :)

  • I wonder if the eggs would have helped.  My OB's cutoff for a normal glucose test is 135 and I was slightly elevated at 139.  I have read that lots of OBs consider anything under 140 as normal.  I should have gone to one of those OBs ;)

  • My first ob recommend staying away from carbs and sugar beforehand. She didn't say anything about fasting for any length of time and suggested a cheese omelet and just water to drink before I came in.  However, I moved before 24 weeks so I didn't end up doing it there.

The ob I have now only does the 2hr and I did have to fast for 12 hours prior to my appointment.  They only schedule them for first thing in the morning, so it wasn't difficult.  No tricks for how to keep from getting sick.  I think it would help if they let you lay down in a cool room if you do start to feel sick.  I got really dizzy, hot, and nauseated between my second and third draw and that's what I had to do.  It helped just enough that I made it through without throwing up or fainting.

Can I just chime in and say all this talking about sex is making me jealous? DH and I had just hit our stride in terms of getting past ms, frequency and position when I was put on pelvic rest for placenta issues at 18w :(( I won't be rechecked again until 30 weeks, just in time to participate in whale wars by the sounds of it. Seriously, this is killing me.

Thanks, @megbmeg! That's not bad! I was 20 points over (my OB's cutoff is 141 and I was 161), but passed my 3 hour. I'm glad ms wasn't an issue for you! Since your mid-morning, I'd say stay up later and try to sleep later so you aren't starving all morning. MS was a huge problem for me, but I made it through thanks to trusty old Zofran. As for avoiding getting sick, if you start to not feel well, ask to lie down. I had my phone and my Kindle to occupy me, that definitely helped to pass the time. GL! If you start not feeling well, focus on your breathing. Some people recommend deep breaths, but I felt better with shallower breaths. I had to put all my entertainment away and just focus on not throwing up. I tried to clear my mind and not think about anything. It sounds weird, but that's what worked for me! After the first hour, it got much, much better.

    eta: sent too soon!

    Thanks!!
