Lost my job.

so I recently lost my job and am currently going bonkers to find a new one. I am just so scared no one will hire me , I'm only 12 weeks and not really showing. I know you have to work at the company a fairly long time to get maternity leave but I just feel like I can't sit at home and not do anything ... Help :(( :-S

Re: Lost my job.

  • So sorry :-( no real advice. Just keep your chin up, put some applications out there, and good luck.

With the holidays coming up, a lot  of retail places are starting to hire. If retail isn't something you want to do, look into a temp agency. They can find you an office job.

     Good Luck!

  • I'm sorry to hear this. As PP suggested a lot of retailers begin looking for seasonal hires at this point in time, and some even offer seasonal positions with the potential of staying on as permanent. It may not be your ideal choice but it's something to do and bring in a little bit of money. Also, have you thought about filing for unemployment in the meantime? I'm not well versed in how unemployment benefits work, but you may be able to collect. If you were working full-time previously and get a part-time job, you may still be able to collect something to make up for the hours you aren't getting. It could be worth looking into. In the meantime, I would get on top of finding something, even if you work with a temp agency that can place you somewhere for a limited amount of time.

You don't have to share if you don't want to, but what type of job did you have and what happened that caused you lose your job?

  • You didn't lose your job because of your pregnancy did you?! I hope not, if that is the case at the very least you should be able to collect unemployment.

  • So sorry, I believe there is a law that they can't discriminate that you are pregnant. Retail season is starting now, so maybe you could find a store you like to work at. A girl who works at my office was hired at 5 months pregnant, she said she was surprised to be hired because she was pregnant. I wouldn't let being pregnant discourage you from finding a job
  • Good luck on your job search. As PPs have mentioned retail may be a good temporary option. I saw on the news that major retailers are hiring more people than ever for this holiday season. An added bonus would be employee discounts on baby items. :)
  • I'm so sorry to hear! I know how frustrating it is to just sit at home. My strategy would depend on what kind of gigs you are looking for
  • Sorry @deehoneybear‌, I'm in the same boat as you. 15w tomorrow, I wear whatever hides the bump for interviews. Pregnancy discrimination is illegal but tough to prove. Goodluck with your job search!
  • Have you thought about working in a maternity store? I had actually been fired for being pregnant and luckily found this job. I couldn't ask for a more supportive and friendly boss and manager. Plus it's been helping me enjoy being pregnant since I've had such a rough first trimester. Just a thought.
  • Ooh also discounts on maternity clothes!
