I have a million questions now that I'm very close to meeting my little one... Right now I'm confused as to when I'm ACTUALLY forty weeks. Based on the first date of my last period, I'm due October 11. Based on the date of conception I'm due October 12. But, after my first ultrasound when I was maybe 12 weeks the doctors changed it to the 20 due to his size. I'm only concerned as to when I'll reach 42 weeks so I know when it's really time to get him out if he doesn't come on his own. Has this happened to anyone and which date should I consider his due date??
Re: when is my due date?
Yep - talk to your doctor. Your official due date will be in your record. As an FYI the only ultrasound they use for dating (and changing due dates) for the most part is an early dating scan at 6 or 7 weeks and the due date is usually only changed if growth is off +/- one week. I was told this is the only scan that is accurate for estimating a due date. By 12 weeks all babies grow differently. Also, it's common to go past 40 weeks with your first and very few babies arrive on the due date - it's an estimate of 40 weeks - unless you have IUI or IVF you don't know when you conceived - when you ovulate and when you conceive are two different things.
To give you an example with my first my LMP "due date" was 5/17. He was a few days ahead on a 6 week growth scan but not a full week. By 12 weeks and several scans after that - the "tech" gave me 5/15, 5/12, 5/7, and 5/2. It was explained to me by my doctor this is just a date that aligns to average growth - meaning my son was something like 85% for his 5/17 due date, but had he been 50th percentile for growth his due date would have been one of these other dates. It meant nothing. He came 5/23 (40 weeks 6 days). Your doctor will know when to get him out, he'll likely come on his own when he's ready before 42 weeks.
What do you mean conception date? Were you charting (ie. BBT) and know when you ovulated? If not ignore that date.

So I would go by what the hospital said was your due date. Then if you had any other ultrasounds (which it sounds like you haven't) you could kind of compare. Like others said it could be a week off but should be close. I would always trust the tech vs the Dr. I love my Dr but she said the machines at her office aren't as good as they are at a lab or hospital.
Lastly are your measurements on target? I know those can be off but if you're measuring on target or only a week big that should make you feel better. Sorry long post!
