Trouble TTC

New to 3T - DH with adrenal hyperplasia

I've been lurking on The Bump for a while and just started posting on the TTGP boards in recent months. DH and I have been TTC for a year and are in the testing process now. Given our circumstance, this board feels more like the place for me. (Is there such thing as TMI on this board?? If I hit it, let me know!)

DH has congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) since birth and it seems to be causing some issues. His SA shows ... well ... nothing! The urologist suspects it could be a blockage. Yesterday, when the urologist did a physical exam, she became concerned about some lumps  (DH has always had them and when he brought concerns to his Endocrinologist TWO years ago was told that they are due to his condition and didn't need to get them looked at.) He goes for an ultrasound next week - CAH increases the risk of tumors in the testicles - praying that everything is benign.

I'm extremely frustrated with the lack of guidance from our doctors. CAH is known to decrease the quality and quantity of sperm and when we brought this up with both our general practitioners, and my OBGYN, all brushed off our concerns and said to just try for a year. For all our trying, all the temping and charting and OPTs and getting our hopes up and false alarms ... there was absolutely zero chance I could have gotten pregnant in this past year! If we had followed our own instincts and been proactive we could have discovered much sooner exactly what we are up against. Lesson learned the hard way. We're focused now on making sure he is healthy.

Not sure if any others here have a DH with adrenal hyperplasia but would love to connect with anyone else who has been through this. Thanks for letting me vent (and hope that wasn't TMI !!!)

  • Welcome! Hope everything is benign. If they do find a blockage, hope it's easily treatable and leads to a much better SA result!!

And, so many doctors suck. I'm so sorry about how they brushed off your concerns. :(

  • not even close to TMI - as another poster said (sorry, forget who) - once you start being treated for fertility issues, TMI goes out the window.

Hoping the tests for YH come out ok, and wishing you better luck with doctor's in the future.  I amazes me how many OBGYN's still seem to live in the "relax and give it a year" world when there are so clearly issues at play in some cases.
  • Welcome.  No such thing about TMI around here.  I'm sorry you got the run around, Dr's are so clueless sometimes, you really need to be your best advocate.  Are you seeing Urology who specializes in Fertility?

    ****SIGGY WARNING****

Hashimoto's with irregular cycles  DH- 37 Severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia

    TTC since May 2012

    HSG- all clear

    March 2014 - RE appt.
April 2014- Saline sono all's good, terrible SA results - 8 sperm found all abnormal
May 2014- Fert Urology- Bilateral varicoceles, recommend Donor Sperm
12/2014-  Surprise natural BFP  EDD 7/31/15 Plan:  Starting foster to adoption, natural cycles

  • Thanks for the warm welcome and well wishes!

@iputketchuponketchup - I did have an HSG done - possible left blockage. I have not asked for the RE referral yet but do NOT plan on going to the f/u appointment scheduled with my OBGYN - I'd like to go straight to the RE instead. Will they give me a referral without that f/u? No more wasting time with the OBGYN (until I'm KU that is.)

@kushie77 - yes the urologist does specialize in fertility. She was the most helpful and informative doctor we have seen so far!
