Not your average vaccine question

Hi Everyone.  I have a question about thimerosal. I need to know if it can be absorbed transdermally (through the skin).  I was in a situation today where I had thimerosal directly on my hands several times.  I am not looking to discuss safety or toxicity.  I just want to know how much could have gotten in my body via topical application.

Just for context - I was staffing a flu shot clinic and administering vaccines.  Since its a multi dose vial it is not uncommon for a drop or two to leak out and onto the outside of the vial when drawing up a dose.  There may also be a quick splatter of liquid at the moment the needle is drawn out of the vial as the pressure has changed inside the vial. While I wore gloves to administer the shot, there were times when I hadled a wet vial with no gloves, and was not immediately able to wash my hands.

I've done several google searches and I'm not finding much.  Thought maybe we had a specialist or scientist in our midst.

*Disclaimer - I am really not looking to get into a discussion on vaccines themselves, whether or not they are safe, etc.  I just want to know how much if any got into my body via the contact I had today.  I really appreciate any insight.
