Let's talk about enterovirus 68...

and how it's freaking me the eff out!!! Since the news came out today of the little 4 y/o boy in NJ who went to bed Friday night with NO symptoms and then died in his sleep and was found to have had the virus, I cannot stop thinking about it. Not to mention that LO has had a cold for about 4 days (but I've had one for a week, so clearly I'm hoping I just gave it to her). But still, so sad for that little boy's family and so scared at the same time. Tell me I'm not the only one!!!

    This is the first confirmed death in the US, so...it's not killing kid    s. I don't live under a rock, but I also haven't watched or read the news today, so I had not seen this!

    Also, I'm in Texas and there is a confirmed case of Ebola in our state, so I already have high anxiety about that. I came in here thinking there had been a vaccine or something developed for E-68; I was not expecting to read about a death, especially one that had no symptoms! I asked nicely, with no snark, not sure why you have to put snarky 2 cents in on something that is a huge trigger for a lot of moms!!

    I'm a bit worried too. LO isn't in daycare either but it's scary (esp. since we live in NJ!)  She took a 3-hour nap today, which is very unusual for her, and I was checking the monitor constantly. :-/

    There's actually been 4 deaths confirmed. The only other one that local health departments have released info about was a 10 y/o girl in RI.  From CNN: "CDC estimating 10 million to 15 million infections each year in the United States." So this isn't something new that no one is hearing about.

    LO has been coughing for a few weeks now.  Had her 6 month check 2 weeks ago and he said it was just postnasal drip.  She is still coughing and this morning heard her wheeze a little.  have an app tat 4:00 today.  starting to freak out....

    I took DS to the ER on orders of his pedi because he began wheezing from the cold he has. He's fine. It's very scary though.

    I live close to Kansas City which at one point had the most cases. With DS1 being in preschool and already going through hospitalization for RSV with Owen (at 3 weeks old) it makes me nervous.

    PHEW,  Lo just has an upper resp infection.  started on Claritin to see if that will help first.  if not have antibiotics waiting in the pharmacy to start on Friday.  Of course,  she did not cough at all at the Dr office.. go figure.
