XP-Breast Pump Question

Hi Ladies.  Many of you know that I'm expecting LO2 in February.  With DD, I was unable to nurse successfully.  I am committed to trying again with this LO.  I spoke with my insurance rep. and the pump they cover is Spectra brand.  Does anyone have experience with this brand of pump?  I am unable to find much information (reviews, etc.).  The one thing that concerns me, is this brand is not carried through main distributors, so I wouldn't know how to get a set of spare parts.  Can I interchange with other brands?  Any information you can share would be really helpful.

  • I don't have experience with that brand, but I just checked and Amazon sells parts for their pumps.

  • Just out of curiosity, are you working after baby comes?  I'd be cautious about off-name brands of pumps if it's something you'll be using often.  If it's just for the occasional time away from baby, then it may suit your needs just fine.

I am.  I work full time and will continue to do so.  My sister has a 12 year old pump in style, still works pretty well that I was considering leaving at work.  I have just never heard of spectra.

I've never heard of Spectra either, and I would really worry about the reliability/quality of something that's not well-known.  My only experience is with my Medela PISA, which worked amazing for the year that I pumped.  IMO, if the Spectra pump is free or the only thing insurance will cover, I would still get it, but would seriously consider a more reputable pump for at work.  I really hope nursing works out for you this time around!

  • I agree with @memcgee1, I would stick with a well known, work horse pump if you are going to be using it at work every day. I used the Ameda Purely Yours several times a day and loved it.
