Crib Talk

How did you transition LO to crib (if you have already)

What worked?

What didn't work?

Re: Crib Talk

  • My LO is 5 weeks and she plays in the crib once a day while I clean her room/put away clothes and blankets. She seems to love it. I am hoping this "fun" time in the crib will make the transition positive later on. Maybe try short daytime bursts or naps first.

  • I'd put her in there in the first part of sleep off and on, then move her to the RNP after the first wake up.  Around 9 weeks I put her in there and left her in there after the first wake up.  I had a monitor by this point, so I think it made it easier for me.

She's only spent 1 night in my room in the RNP since!

  • Started DD on crib naps at about 1.5 months. She is used to napping in it now and my hope is she will be used to it enough to transition with little to no trouble.

  • LO is 5 weeks and he had one day where he was so overtired he wouldn't settle for a nap so I ended up just swaddling him, putting him in his crib with the white noise machine, and walking out because everything I was doing was overstimulating him. He cried for a few minutes and fell asleep. Since then he's pretty much wanted to nap solely in his crib, swaddled, and will do anywhere from 1-4 hours. We haven't yet put him in at night (other than the first stretch before we go to bed) because DH didn't get the video monitor up before he left on his work trip so I'm not sure how he'll do in there at night yet but I'm thinking he'll sleep similarly to how he does in our room (wake around 2-3 am. and then again around 4-5), or hopefully better.

We do use a crib wedge tucked in under the sheet to elevate him a bit because there are times he's spit up or had a ton of saliva at night and having him totally flat makes me a bit nervous still.
  • LO hated the cradle so he has been in the crib since night two of being home. We haven't had any issues but he sleeps longer when there is a fan on so I am going to look into getting a white noise machine.
  • We also started with naps - we had one of those secure sleepers that go in the parent's bed to help co-sleep safely and at first I would put that in his crib for naps. After a little bit of that I elevated his crib mattress and put him in there at night. We have a monitor. Since that first night he has not slept anywhere else at night since. This was our second crib transition, as the first time lasted about a week and I missed him so I brought him back. He has now been in his crib for several weeks, maybe even a month and it is working well.

  • I know this thread is old, but thinking the transition needs to happen soon for us. DS is getting too big for the RnP, he makes him in a seated position all night with his feet at the end and head at the top. I'm nervous because he has always slept at an incline. Naps are typically in the swing. Anyone else make the transition recently from RnP?
  • They have wedges that you can put under his crib mattress to help with the transition.
  • We use a crib wedge under the sheet so there's a bit of an incline. We moved the baby to the crib at night at 7 weeks which is way earlier than I did with my first so I was still nervous about him spitting up or collecting saliva in his mouth. So far so good except sometimes he does 45-degree turns in his swaddle and ends up sideways from where he started, lol.

With DS1 I used the wedge and rolled up towels under the crib sheet to make a U-shaped nest of sorts so he felt more confined like he did in the RnP. I was afraid to mess too much with a good thing with that one though in hindsight I'm sure he would have adjusted a lot more quickly than I thought at the time.
  • We started having LO sleep in his crib at 6 weeks when he was sleeping longer stretches. We didn't do anything special, except play the sound machine and added a night light. That's how we did it with our oldest son and they both sleep (currently) pretty well.
