Re: cramping after IUI

  • Hi, I had my first IUI on the 28th so I feel your pain in the middle of the 2ww.  From what I've read I think minor cramping is normal and it could be any number of things.  It's still too soon to know anything for sure so there isn't a whole lot I can tell you to ease your mind.  Sorry, I know that sucks! Are you taking progesterone? That can mess with stuff too.

  • I have had cramping after all my IUIs.  Nothing too crazy, but a little bit here and there.  I think it's pretty common.  Good Luck!

  • So sorry, I know the TWW sucks!! As much as we try not to obsess over symptoms, I'm sure many of us can't help it still at least for certain cycles. :)

You're asking if it's normal - yes, totally! On IUI and non-IUI cycles, triggered cycles and non triggered cycles, cycles with one follie and cycles with no follies and cycles with many follies, overstim and understim cycles, BFP cycles and BFN cycles, TWWs before successful pregnancies and TWWs before losses. Sometimes uteri/ovaries cramp and twinge and it's hard to explain the cause. Sometimes mid-luteal phase cramping could be associated with implantation, but on a typical IUI cycle, 80% of the time it is not. :)

    Good luck!

  • I don't think cramping is a sign of anything. I had cramping with my IUI and it resulted in a BFN, but that doesn't mean it didn't work. The only way to know if it worked is to wait the 2 weeks. Cramping is normal either way.

  • bunnyberry, im a little confused. in your reply you stated that it could be mid phase implantation bleeding but since its an IUI cycle it prob wasnt. can you further explain that? ive heard of implantation bleeding and cramping but i didnt know that it usually doesnt happen with IUI cycle. Why is that? sorry for all the questions!!!

I think that @BunnyBerry is saying that you probably have about a 20% chance of becoming pregnant, so 80% of the time, the "symptoms" you feel don't mean implantation happened.

  • I am so glad you asked this question because I was wondering the same thing. I actually had my first IUI on Sept 30 too! I have had cramping on and off since the procedure.  I was getting nervous and was going to call my doctor to see if it was normal. But from all your responses it looks like it is normal and I will wait it out. And I just hate this 2ww!!
  • Thanks, @bethkate2.

Sorry, I didn't see myself tagged for some reason - yes, that's because only 20% of IUI cycles typically succeed if the couple has reasonably good chances based on their diagnosis and history.
