First dentist visit!

DD had her first dentist visit today - really cute underwater-themed pediatric dental office.  She wasn't thrilled to be there, but they did a great job of dealing with her.  To my happy surprise (since brushing teeth continues to be a nightly battle of wills for us) her teeth are in great shape and she has all her baby teeth except for the back molars (so, 4 more total to come in).  They also showed me a pressure point on the inside of her mouth, near the back where the jaw closure is.  If you push, it makes them open their jaws so you can see their teeth!

Anyway, I'm chalking that visit up as a success.  Of course, they did say I should have brought her in at 1YO, but oh well.  Anyone else taken their LO to the dentist yet?

Re: First dentist visit!

  • Congrats on the good visit!

I took DS to the dentist in May. They brushed his teeth and said everything looked good then gave him a "No Sugar Bug Club" certificate and a toothbrush. :)

  • I have called three different pediatric dentists under our insurance and all three told me that they wouldn't see DD until 3. I still have a few more to call but want to see what everyone else is doing about this.
  • DS has an appointment when I have my next cleaning in February. It is with my family dentist. She sees ton of little kids and had 2 daughters around the same age. I have been dreading it, but I'm glad your appointment went well.

  • Our dental insurance doesn't cover routine check ups until age 3, although our pedi recommends age 2. I am not concerned; he loves to brush his teeth and often reminds me to do it.

Haha by "brush" I mean "suck the toothpaste off." But he does swish it around and sometimes lets me do a few quick brushes if needed.

  • My son had been to the dentist twice already. He hates the cleaning part. But since he started young I think he will do better in the future. He is not a fan of even me looking in his mouth

  • We haven't gone yet. Every time I think about it, dd pops another tooth so I decide decide to wait. I'll probably take her when she is around 2. She LOVES to brush her teeth, so I really don't have any concerns.

  • I too called our dentist and they said not until 3. J does really well at brushing his teeth, I brush first a bit, then he "brushes", then I brush again and repeat until I feel like I got all his teeth.
