  I had something similar happen to me yesterday (I'm about 5 1/2 weeks).  I called my OB and she was not worried about it.  She said brown spotting = old blood (which is less concerning), and as long as it was not heavy spotting, there was no need for me to come in.  Apparently this is fairly common. 

  
  

  I also have had mild cramping for about 2 weeks now and my OB was also not concerned about that, and said it is just my uterus growing and this can be sometimes more noticeable in women who are more slender.

  Ok so I happened to have some brown spotting at the doctors office on Monday right before my first appointment. So of course my blood pressure was through the roof when they took it when I first got to the exam room! Lol! I asked my doctor about it and he said that about 25% of women experience this through out pregnancy and it happens because as the uterus expands sometimes tiny blood vessels burst and then the uterus will contract down on it to make it stop....which also pushes the blood out and onto the tissue. He said it is just a natural part of the uterus growing. And that you cramp just because your uterus is expanding so it can fit the ever growing baben!
  
  I was SO THANKFUL to hear that! After multiple miscarriages my anxiety was thick!
