Sooooo, there was an HFM outbreak at daycare this week. Sigh. And low and behold LO has been "off" all day

clingy, crying, did not eat much (although had a full dinner and has taken all of her milk)...... And around 1PM - she registered a temp of 100.5. I had already given her Tylenol. She's had horrendous teething symptoms all week, so I loaded her up right before I took temp. Temp hasn't gone higher than that but u have stayed on top of Tylenol bc she seems uncomfortable. No blisters.....yet. On top of this her nose has been running a lot.....and she got a flu shot yesterday......and DH has a horrible cold.......so what do you think?? HFM? Teeth? Cold? I have to say, she doesn't get sick much and this is killing me

she seems miserable and it's making me both sad and nervous

It takes 24-48hrs for blisters to appear after the fever in HFM. It's really hard to say whether it's the flu shot or teething or HFM at this point. My kids had a super mild case a month ago and it wasn't bad. The worst part was staying home for 6 days.

Does she have a diaper rash? A had a terrible case of HFM and it was a new strain that started as a diaper rash

I agree that with those symptoms, it's too early to make a call. FX it's not HFM!!

Well- just went in to take temp and give Motrin......102.6. I'm calling it now HFM

soooooo upset right now. @kmc84‌ - she had a horrible diaper rash earlier this week. Ironically that is almost gone.....next question does the fever last through blisters? Or does it typically break once the blisters appear? And should I keep up with the Motrin/Tylenol through night or just let this run its course?

DD's fever lasted about 24hrs and DS for about 12hrs. I would continue to alternate Tylenol/Motrin if she wakes up with fever. I wouldn't wake her though.

Thanks Jesselayne8..... I appreciate the advice because she is totally sacked out and i dont want tl keep waking her up as i know she needs her sleep to help fight this....but the thought of auch a high fever is so upsetting to me.... i just checked on her - its down to 99.5......(calling Jmorta04......checked without even waking her up thanks to the temporal thermometer...)

Yah I would monitor it but I wouldn't wake up to give medicine unless its super high. Last time Ds had a fever they said as long as its under 105 its ok, and he's 3. But of course Id rather have it lowered with the tylenol/motrin but I really wouldn't wake to give it. If they are uncomfortable Im sure they will wake up on their own.

With Ds he had a slight fever the day before he broke out in the rash around his mouth. He had a bad case they covered his body like chicken pox but it started primarily around his mouth and spread to hands and feet next. Ds also got a secondary infection around his mouth and needed antibiotics.

And yes as PP post mentioned its really hard to keep them contained in your house for the next week while they are still contagious. And of course lots of hand washing for you and your DH so you don't get it too. Hope she gets feeling better soon.

DS had a really high fever and when that broke, the rash started. His case was really mild so we lucked out but make sure to keep her hydrated. Especially if she gets the blisters in her mouth. My girlfriend's daughter had a bad case and pretty much lived off of ice pops. Hoping she gets better quick!!

O had 1 sore in his mouth and the worst of it was around his genitals. The rash and diarrhea was out of control for about a week. Horrible. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. His fever lasted about 3 days.

We had it in the spring when DS was around 15 months - the week I was stimming. He was not happy for a couple days, but there was only one day where he was acting really sick. Our doc said we could pretty much just manage the symptoms with Tylenol or Advil, and offer food and drink. We got lucky and didn't get too too many in his mouth so he ate quasi decently. I did get some apple juice which he doesn't normally have but figured if he was excited about the liquid he'd be more willing to drink. His fever lasted a couple days and then the blisters came after that. Our daycare center lets them back once the fever is gone for 24 hours, even if they have blisters, as long as blisters aren't "oozing." This time of the year might be a little easier to keep them covered since it's approaching pants weather. It's a hard week, but once they've had it - even if a different strain goes around in the future, they at least have a little immunity built up. Good luck!!!

Thanks for all of the support ladies. Didn't have to worry about her last night, since she was up from 1230-4......urrrrghhh. The good news is she's been fever free all day

some blisters on her butt, but nothing on hands or feet yet. She won't let me near her mouth to check. The little but i have seen looks clear, but who knows. Not eating much, but drinking lots of milk ( and normal amounts of water) so I am not too concerned for now...she's sooooooo clingy though. Currently an hour and a half into a nap... On me. My daycare also lets them back once they are 24 hours fever free..... I would like to keep her home tomorrow, and keep an eye on her and be the one to take care of her if its a rough day, but of course I only have like 5 vacation days left for the year...and my husband is convinced she doesn't have it and is already campaigning for her to go. I'm really not happy with him on how he's handling this. Why don't men get it??

@kmc84‌ - she's staying home with daddy tomorrow. She had an elevated temp after her nap. Doesn't appear to be anything drastic, but I can't chance that happening at daycare.

Next question...... Did your LOs not sleep when they had it? We were up forever last night and she already woke up once tonight and is currently sleeping on my shoulder....ughhhh

@ducky719 - I wholeheartedly agree that they need us when they are sick. We're very fortunate and Molly really doesn't get sick a lot. Unless its an ear infection, she tends to sleep....I foolishly thought this is how this would go....ugh. Here's hoping tonight is better

Thanks ladies. This is pretty nasty. She looks awful (and its a mild case)..... I feel like we're never going to turn that elusive corner where things start to go back to normal
