Trouble TTC

Monday Appt and STILL Confused

Well today I had my 2nd ultrasound and more blood work done for my hcg levels.  Thankfully the ultrasound proved yet again that I do not have an ectopic pregnancy, but this time unlike last time a sac was discovered in my uterus.  My RE sat down with me after the US and told me that there is a white line around the sac indicating that a baby could possibly be forming.  He told me at this point hcg levels really don't matter any more and that it's up to if the baby is going to develop or not.  He's still confused and wants to give this more time and do another US next week on Wednesday.

About 4 hours after my appt. I received a call that my hcg level made an 80% increase, but the nurse told me that it's still not good.  I just don't trust the nurse at all anymore and I'm just not sure what to think.  So it seems I am still in limbo...always with the waiting.  I just want to know what is going to happen so I can move on.

Seriously AGGRAVATING moment: last week the nurse told me to stop taking all of my prenatal vitamins and my folic acid tablets....so I did even though it nearly killed me.  Today my RE wanted to know why I stopped taking all of that and that I needed to start taking it again immediately....WHAT?  Are you kidding me?!  I was infuriated!

Any way, thanks ladies for being there for me and sharing such great, positive advice.  This has been the most difficult, miserable, painful week of my life.  I've never felt this trapped and anxious before, you have all made it a little easier to bare.

Re: Monday Appt and STILL Confused

  • Sorry to hear about all of the confusion. I wish you luck with the sac they found. As far as the nurse is concerned, I would let your Dr know about everything and request that all information come from him. I don't know if that is possible, but it is worth asking. You might not be the only one getting horrible answers for her.

  • This waiting is terrible!!

why in the world did she tell you to stop taking vitamins?
  • I'm so sorry you're in limbo. I agree with others that you should inform the doctor about this nurse and either request a new nurse or to speak only to the doctor. This is a sensitive and serious enough situation to make that happen.

"I'm sorry WillieG.. the waiting and back and forth with answers would drive me insane. What in the fucking fuck is this nurse thinking? KU or not, any woman who is of reproductive age (let alone one TTC) should be taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid as a precaution. I want to strangle her on your behalf.

In all honesty, I'd bring up her lack of bedside manner and bullshit advice to your RE immediately. If she still remains employed, I would demand that she be barred from your case and that any further information and interactions come either directly from your RE or another staff member. You have that right. Stand up for it. "

I will bring it up!  She has been nothing but rude and doom and gloom from day one.  The second I answer the phone she has the worst attitude and a horrible, dreadful tone.  From what she told me, she was positive that the RE would want to give me medication to miscarry the baby today and that my vitamins and folic acid would counteract all of that.  Now that I know that my RE wants to actually give this a shot and says that doing that would be unethical at this stage I'm unbelievably pissed!  I could punch her.

  • that nurse sounds down right stupid.

all women of childbearing age should be taking a daily vitamin with extra folic acid even if you are not trying to conceive.. because not all pregnancies are planned.

i would definitely tell someone about this because she shouldnt go around telling women they dont need these vitamins. im annoyed for you!!

  • sorry you're going through this. Praying it works out for you. I would tell the doctor about the nurse, but I don't think missing a few days of prenatals will cause harm. I think they tell you to not take folic acid if it's ectopic, but I'm not sure why. Hoping the best for you.

  • Oh my goodness that is an EVIL nurse!! What woman TTC would ever stop taking her folic acid and prenatals? Is that nurse trying to hurt your baby's chances of developing? Is she crazy? And she tells you Over The Phone that you're going to get meds to miscarry today? She sounds pathological. Please, please do tell the doctor everything she has said and make sure he realizes how messed up that was. :(

  • Wow, I'm praying for you that this is really it! FX
  • Since I thought the nurse was a moron too I looked up why she said that. Folic acid helps in the development of new cells. Of course, if your pregnancy is ectopic you don't want to aid in its growth. Interesting because I just thought folic acid prevented spina bifida and other birth defects. Now I know how.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I suppose that explains the folic acid, but getting off of my prenatal vitamins doesn't really make sense to me.  I feel that the nurse has been not only extremely rude and negative with everything, but she's also been very premature with her suggestions and advice of doom and gloom.  She had me fully prepared to go into my US on Monday, see nothing but horribleness, and take medication to miscarry.  Which didn't happen.  She's really been making this already awful and emotional experience that much more awful.
