Rear Facing Car Seat

I was just curious if any of you still have LO rear facing?

I just turned DS around last week. I was determined not to before two and after that thought as long as it was working, I would leave it that way. I felt like I was the only person I know who hadn't turned him around. In my state (not sure how much it varies state to state) the law is one year and recommendation is two. Everywhere I read, though, suggests as long as possible. I went ahead for two reasons. First, he hit another growth spurt and is tall already so his legs were really cramped. I know that is not a great reason, but it was getting pretty rediculous. Second, DD is coming in February and I can't have two rear facing seats in my car because my husband is tall and for the seat to be far back enough for him to drive, there can't be a rear facing behind him. I could have waited another couple months on that, though. I guess I am having mommy guilt for not having great reasons to switch him. Okay, thanks for listening to my ramblings.

Re: Rear Facing Car Seat

  • We're still rear facing and will be until he reaches the weight limit of the seat. Crunchy legs and all :)

  • We had a similar thread and I feel it was at about 14 months for our babes, cause I feel like that's when we switched her. I outlined my reasons in that thread, and I have no regrets. It involved her vomiting and screaming like we were skinning her alive, preventing us from driving safely. Maybe our next kid won't care and maybe that kid will be rear facing till they are 3, but it just didn't work for us and DD to go much longer than the law required us.

  • Still rear facing here too. We got a seat with a tall height maximum so that we could keep her rear facing as long as possible. But I don't know anyone IRL who is doing it this long.

  • We're still rear facing, and she's got long legs, she just folds them up - I also watch a friend's infant and so have both my daughter and the infant rear facing, side by side (my daughter's seat is in the middle of the back, infant seat is behind the passenger seat).

For those of you that have turned the seat, if you had it in the middle rear facing, did you keep it in the middle forward facing?

Mine wouldn't fit in the middle and passenger's. That would have been my preference. I have the forward facing behind the driver and rear facing behind the passenger.

    same here. DD was miserable.

Yep, we turned her at 15 months because she was getting so car sick she would vomit on the 5 minute drive to the grocery store. Even when she didn't vomit she would scream and cry the WHOLE car ride no matter what we tried. We turned her as a last resort and has been much better. Now she only gets car sick on rides longer than an hour or if she eats right before we get in the car :P
  • We actually bought a new seat just before her 2nd birthday so we could keep her RF longer. She outgrew her Britax RF height limit at like 20/21 months.  She's 37 inches now and we plan to keep her RF until she reaches the height limit on her new seat or turns 4, whichever is first.

  • We've been FF for awhile now. Fifi is just too tall. She's always been on the passenger side bc the seat anchors are weird in our cars.

  • We switched her at 2 years and we kept her in the middle due to the harness latches. I'm due in February and probably be moving both car seat to the sides because I don't think I can safely fit both car seats side by side.

  • We're still rear-facing. Kiddo isn't complaining yet and fits fine, so might as well.
  • Still rear facing. Older brother rear faced until 5. Will rear face until at least 4 with May kiddo.
